Hawmorfords get new Australian record
A few of us were toying with the idea of 100 in 24 hours earlier this year, so it's great to see someone has actually managed this feat! We went so far as to have a planning meeting to look at possible driving routes and the logistics of having 3 teams in 1 car to share the driving duties. One topic that was brought up would be whether or not we could do a 'trial run' beforehand to include multis - ie complete all but the final stages of a multi then go to GZ as part of the 100. I think we eventually ruled this out as not being in the 'spirit' of the attempt. Whether or not a team has been escorted to their cache, a find is still a find and it's a great accomplishment. Look forward to seeing more records broken in the future - seems 17 hours 26 minutes is the time to beat

Well, I can tell you that such an attempt does require a LOT of homework. I have spent at least 40 hrs researching a one day 24 hr caching run in Brissy for next week. I have spent time looking for high density cache areas, ruling out high difficulty-terrain/multi/long walk caches. Fitting in new caches as they show up. Then using Google Earth to locate the caches, looking for suitable routes/pathways to the caches, then finding closest streets, then using an online street directory, finding the names of those streets, so I can use a Satnav to help navigate around. Downloading all the info to a laptop, and to the GPS. And all done without the benefit of premium membership, and only using GSAK toward the very end.
In addition, its an area that I have not cached before, so its open slather for me. I dont have to worry about caches I have already found. But, thats a double edged sword, as I dont know the area, and dont know shortcuts. Thats where my faith in the Satnav comes in. I will have a referdex as backup. And I did live in the area, about 20 years ago.
All that work, and it may not work out, but, thats part of the fun of it.

I offer our Congratulations, however it does raise some other questions too. Food?, How did you remember each one for writing a log later, because I'll be stumped if I can remember 10 caches I did in one day, traffic and Muggles. To me the Muggle aspect would be the most concern because it would be a fluke to do 100 caches without fear of being watched or seen. It is a good effort and as long as you are happy with youself and feeling good about finding that many in a day thats Great!. The only problem with these attempts is we may be starting something that could get out of control with cachers ignoring speed limits, How They Were Replaced (Properly), and ignoring being watched. In other words Not giving a damm how someone elses cache is treated. Oh well, well done, I hope this trend is just a fad that will fade away with common sense.djcache wrote:Okay. Who's going to be brave enough to back me up here.
24 hours
101 caches
14mins 20 secs per cache.
That allows no time for driving between, sustenance, fueling vehicles if required, a loo break.

Have fun Bundy. Hopefully all the knockers of "anything being done that they dont agree with" will all learn to butt out and let all cachers get out the sport what they want. As a Brissy local, we are honoured that a run is attempted in our city . Ask Darren from ADAcache and Eskimozookeeper how happy we are about it. We know that all care will be taken with the caches. Not everything has to be raised in the negative. GO FOR IT.

As for the travelling aspect between caches, which I should have mentioned in my last post, my research shows there are a number of caches in the area I will be travelling through, where 2, or even 3 can be got from one central parking spot. Leo's Perch, and It Pays To Advertise, cant be more than a couple of hundred metres apart, and could easily be grabbed in the space of a couple of minutes. There are others on the list that will take more time to get into and out of the vehicle, than drive the distance between them. Sustinence will be carried onboard. Recording comments on caches will be done on an MP3, for subsiquent logging onto the net. My 2 daughters, who will be assisting me, will probably take turns to get some sleep in the back, still with seatbelts on.

You know, the day you expect to be great, everything planned , everything works and you simply can't find them?
I could record 1000 DNF's today if I could be bothered to log them

But I didn't plan the day except from deciding to start in Rockingham and head North to Fremantle and see how I go.
