Steve Irwin killed by stingray barb

Sad news, the croc hunter was speared in the chest by a stingray barb around noon today and died very quickly while filming a new docco.

What a larger than life character!

I've had heaps of emails and SMS's sent to me about this....its amazing how quick word has got around.

a lot of people were waiting for something like this to happen to him but then again also thought of him as indestructible.

I can only imagine what sort of a cacher he could have been

You're absolutely right - imagine where some of his caches would have taken us

We snapped this photo when we visited Australia Zoo in January - somehow I don't think his little dip was part of the script

Many times I'd wished a croc would eat the bugger, but I have to admit he was larger than life and we'll actually miss his antics.

My sincere sympathies go to his family.
