Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers
Some people have some pretty cool stats / graphs in their GC profile but I can't figure out how they do it. I am a paying member.
Also, is GSAK worth using?

Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers
I reckon GSAK is great. It's really easy to study a heap of caches that you plan to do without having to wait for internet to show each one on the screen. I use it all the time to plan my day's caching or a holiday to somewhere etc etc. If you're familiar with excel, you'll love it. If not, it's pretty intuitive anyway.
GSAK will also give you a heap of great stats that you can load to your GC profile, that's where mine came from.
Of course, the GCA stats are more fun and wider ranging but I'm happy to play with them here and just load the GSAK stats to GC.

They are using GSAK to generate those great stats graphs, so yes, GSAK is worth using if you plan on caching in the future.bean_counter wrote:Some people have some pretty cool stats / graphs in their GC profile but I can't figure out how they do it. I am a paying member.

I'd almost go as far as to say it's essential!

Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers
Thanks - that worked a treat. Now I'm up to 209 in total.caughtatwork wrote:http://wiki.geocaching.com.au/wiki/Uplo ... aching.com
That's quick and simple and minimal effort.
My northern and western most caches are now in Canada. It doesn't recognise the locations (town/suburb) as they are shown as 'Unknown' but it has the country and state/province.

Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers
Yes, we only have a locale for AU and NZ as they're the only ones we have postcodes and centroids for. Call us provincial if you must
Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers
i can't publish my new hide and i feel very dumb i must be missing something huge i have read the wiki page and all it said is that i would need to publish but not how to do that
please help
Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers
If you created it on geocaching.com.au, you need to select "log this cache" under the Actions list on the cache page. Change your log type to Publish and click log at the bottom of the screen.zdsr wrote:

Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers
Lots of things are easy once you know how, but just don't make sense when trying to work it out the first time. Frustrating isn't it.
I assume your trying to publish your cache here at GCA.
Are you following the wiki guide on listing the cache here:http://wiki.geocaching.com.au/wiki/Listing_a_cache
In particular, start by following this link (once your logged in): http://geocaching.com.au/my/cache/new
Don't be afraid to come back and ask if your still stuck.

Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers
No longer a newcomer but I was wondering if I could see all the archived caches on a map. Would be interesting to see where they used to be in my area.

Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers
You won't get them all to show up at the same time as that's too big a tax on the server.
Scroll around and see what's there.

Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers
Thanks, that works. Only pain is that the map always starts on central Australia so if you go back you don't get your local map where you were browsing but the main map and you have to try and find your location again. The way I solved that one was to right click each archived cache and open in a new tab, then I could always go back to the map in the same spot.caughtatwork wrote:You won't get them all to show up at the same time as that's too big a tax on the server.

This is handy - some of my planned caches are on top of some old ones.

Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers
Yes, that's standard browser navigation. Not much we can do except force open a new window on click of a cache. Then we get people complaining about opening new windows. Six of one complaint, half a dozen of another.

Now that is cool!caughtatwork wrote:You won't get them all to show up at the same time as that's too big a tax on the server.

Interestingly I started in 2006 but only missed out on finding a couple of caches within my area
Re: Leek's caching tips for newbies...
Could someone please explain what this means? What's the relevance of a mirror?
