2. Monument to the People's Heroes or as the locals call it Renmin Yingxiong Jinianbei

EDIT: Seeing as this post was only supposed to be a clue but noone wants to answer questions 1 and 3 I'll do it.

1. Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China
3. The Tank Man, June 5 1989. An unknown man stood in front of a column of tanks on their way to Tiananmen Square during the student protests and brought them to a stand still.

Try this one.
Very close up.
Name what this is.
Name the significant date in its history, and what caused this thing to be in the condition it is now in.

Correcto. I was just about to answer to Q2 when we got a call from another (shall remain nameless) geocacher who got himself stuck in car and we went on a four hour rescue trip. Sorry no earlier hints. Very busy weekend unfortunately not geocaching.

BTW, I cannot get a link on the above either.

Gun mounting, Battleship USS Arizona, Pearl Harbour.
In it's current condition because it was bombed and sank by the Japanese on December 7, 1941.

I suppose nothing should surprise me these days, the fact that that is exactly correct, unless there is code in the file name or pic which lets certain people on.

What, how did I manage to pin point a gun turret on a sunken ship in Hawaii so quickly?

I love GE and have been "virtually" touring the world's historic landmarks and Pearl Harbour was the subject of my interest only a few months ago and there was something in the way you asked your question :D

I have a harder time identifying points of lesser significance than a national war memorial in a place like Pearl Harbour.

Tiananmen Square was easy because only last week I was there after following a link about something I can not remember atm to Puyi, The Last Emporer, then to the Forbidden City of which Tiananmen Square is on the Southern approach.

I have too much time on my hands. :?

Finally "Easy" answers for Wednesday....

After spending a couple of days hunting around the world on the back of the Beach Boys "Kokomo", I've been to Kokomo, Waikiki, Aruba, Jamaica etc, and I came up blank.

Little did I know that I had the right group in The Beach Boys but the wrong song. "Surfing USA" was the song and it led me right back to Narrabeen Beach north of Sydney. Whew!

Well done Rabbitto!
I saw Brian Wilson perform that song about a month ago while up at Splendour in the Grass. I was warned of dissapointment, but he (and the massive backing band) did an amazing show.
