You guys again are heroes!

Champion effort guys!

Wulfchylde (Jude) and I made 3005 (180 scooby's).

Even better than last year - but a lot of that is the people - what a great bunch - ROC and everyone else too - glad to see we're not the only interstaters this year.

Jude is talking about pirates now...

edit: made it home OK - bout 9pm.

Awesome weekend, 1950 points (you should give out points for socialising :) ), more later.

That article forgot to credit the event cache as the source/cause of the rain. 8)

Yep Good One!

Plenty to do for anyone caching inclined in Dubbo. Particularly enjoyed caching out in the forest.

As per our "3:30 pm" arrival at Dubbo on Saturday we arrived home at "about 3:00pm on Monday" in the dark to the open arms of our family. Not sure wht went wrong with our ETAs  ... maybe it was the stop on the outskirts of Dubbo to grab 3 more caches ... or the detour through Muswelbrook to grab a few caches .. or the unexpected stop at Rutherford (you guessd it).

The laughs didn't stop all weekend. Definitely on my to do list for next year.

I was saying to Mind Socket after the event that it felt just like catching up with family once a year  By that, I mean catching up with NICE family by the way, lol... Some teams might only see each other 1-2 times a year but each time we see each other we can be sure of a great conversation and a friendly face. Thanks to all who came for the weekend and braved the rain. See you next year with Mix, Mini-Mix and Micro-Mix  MrsMix xxx

I had a great weekend. Sure there is a lot involved and some things didn't go as we had planned them but it was all fun. People genuinely had fun and were happy to say what we caould improve on. Thanks to all those who added comment.

Mix and I did a lot but it was the little things that Red Ochre puts in that makes the difference to all our visitors. Firewood, cooking at the BBQ, Attending dinner and welcoming our guests, marshalling events and maintaining caches to name a few.

We have been given 5 years of ideas by visitors and the Red Ochre Mob came up with another four before I even got to them. The wether didn't put too much of a dampen on the fun had and friendships formed.

Red Ochre will meet again in about a month to debrief and discuss next year. I will endeavour to put some of the pictures up in the gallery. Tonight I'm off with team Pi to a Ubuntu thingy so we'll see.

Arrived home safe after stopping a few times on the way home (to cache). Having had a great time over the 3 days even with some minor technical hitches on Saturday and thankful that I did not have to do any of the organizing, because the level of detail that had gone into the organizing showed up in the way the event went off without any major hassles even with a late change of plans and cache sites being muggled it seemed that all the locals where on hand to give us outsiders ( of Dubbo ) the best of times and will be attending any future events that the Dubbo people are willing to host it was also nice to put faces to names.

Ok, here's my log, since gc.com rejected it for being too long. :p

After the 6 hour early-morning trek from Sydney, Team Mind Socket (KitPie, Rog and Cassie the dog) rocked up just in time to register. After getting through the formalities, we mosied on downtown, following the trail of all the 4x4s that raced ahead of us to attempt the opening cache. We met a curious fellow who supplied us with a takeaway menu, and thought "maybe he's not the man we're looking for". After an amusing phone call, a spot of shopping (really!) and a chat with the locals, we noticed that the Mind Socket was no longer plugged in (it must have fallen out during the drive)! We rectified the situation, converted from Thai to English using ROT90, then applied triple-ROT13 in the PDA. We zipped back up the road to the scene of the scooby-snacks, and were pleasantly surprised to be the first off the mark. With a list of coords in hand we quickly nabbed a nearby 100-point snack (thanks to KitPie's sharp finding skills), but then stumbled at another 150-point snack, with 400m of fencing only partially searched. Making the most of the situation, we pretended to find the snack, so that the nearby operatives (Team Booya, resplendent in their caching regalia) were put off the scent of the snack that still hid in waiting.

After tackling a muddy track as we exited stage right, we basically drove around town in circles (my tracklog looks rather similar to the street directory now) having little success with caches in the area. After picking up a mystery TB in a trad cache, we headed off to a haystack. KitPie waited this one out in the car, and I called the search off when I compared the brute force searching power of 1 Mind Socket to the likes of other teams with 5 pairs of eyes and hands. Not enjoying the rain that much, we retired to the Scooby Shack for the afternoon to catch up with whoever was there. This worked out as a good strategy, as the locals can't help but let slip a few hints (sometimes we got more info than we'd ever expect as a hint :) ). We set up camp, had a bite and then I headed back out to try a couple more mysteries on the hitlist, again without success (it turns out I looked under every rock except the one the cache was under).

Some time elapsed, some more chins wagged, and as night fell, the night cache kicked off with a puzzle. We teamed up with Booted for a Mystery Tour style jaunt through the countryside. We had a hiccup or 2 along the way, but got through in the end, enjoying every minute, right through to the impromptu cache opening ceremony on the hill.

Parting ways with the Booted ones, we stopped back at the location for that 150 point scooby snack. We were pleased to discover it still intact, though it came at the expense of a bit of blood when the fence bit me. The impromptu shenanigans earlier in the day had paid off, bringing a valuable snack nearly 12 hours after the start of the event. We returned to the Scooby Shack, intending to call it a day. After a quick planning session, I ducked out, back to the same area :) (as Dave Rat says, prior preparation prevents piss-poor performance) to log a previously solved riddle, and then finally called it a night.

I arose at 7am the next day, while KitPie "minded the tent". I had 4 caches planned and over 100km to cover before 11am. The morning drive out to Horror-Scope, and back past Beni for Tin Tune Riddle was lovely, with an unplanned crack at Remnant thrown in for good measure. Cutting back across town, the local boys in blue threw an extra test into the weekend's challenges ("You want me to count to ten, eh?"). Having passed that with flying colours, I went back to one of the previous day's DNFs and had it in 3 seconds flat. Upon returning to nab 12 Grimmauld Place, the devious navigation device must have seen the police car and the no-right turn sign at the approaching intersection and told me to do it anyway. I realised too late, but the boys either didn't notice, or figured that I'd done a pretty good job counting to 10 (for a city-fella) and let me carry on.

Back at the Shack, I filled my hungry belly with some of the fine catering whilst tallying our score. With 1950 points, we'd placed 7th overall (which I was pretty pleased with) and had fun trying to be devious in the final event for the cache.

The fun didn't stop there ... after the presentations, more banter and some packing up, the after-party began with gusto. Pizza, homebrew, port and a slideshow were all great additions to a night of frivolity and swapping stories.

We had a bit of a sleep in the next morning and lazily packed up camp before saying our farewells and heading home.

Thanks to all of the ROCs involved with organising the event, and to all the other attendees for making the weekend a fun, good spirited and overall awesome experience. I look forward to the next one.

Thanks to Mix, Bronze, Team Pi and all others who helped make the weekend great.
<p>We really enjoyed ourselves, and are planning on returning next year.</p>
<p>Bretheren of The Coast (Grank, Pesky and Shifter Brains) managed to score 2220 points and came in 6th. We didn't get a prize - probably all won by the time we started, but that didn't matter - the fun was all that counted.</p>
<p>Keep up the great planning for next year.</p>
<p>We would love to see all those we met in Gosford on September 23 & 24 2006 for the Bretheren of the Coast event - "Eye of the Dragon"

<p>Looks like I missed a great weekend out there at Dubbo.</p>

<p>Perhaps all who went to the Mystery event could check their Travel Bug inventory. I've still got a bug checked out to me - "<a href="http://www.geocaching.com/track/details ... 8b4785">On a Clear Day</a>" - that hitched a ride out west with Team Booted. I'm sure the owners would love to see where it is. I'm kinda curious myself.</p>
