Ok, so it's time to fess up. I first went caching with my mate who's nickname was Shonkylogic, based on the fact that he's a bit of a geek and his surname sounds like Shonky. But I owned the GPS, so I continued using the name, so when he eventually bought his GPS he had to register a new name... i, dax. He's never really forgiven me for stealing his name!

Detourism is a combination of 2 words:
Detour because long before I started caching I had this obsession with taking the "back way home". The most direct route was always too boring.
Tourism because caching gets us out and about and travelling.
I liked the combined word because it has a medical condition sound to it -
"I'm sorry to inform you that you are suffering from Detourism...no cure has been found yet but it can be managed through a strict program of geocaching"
It also has an anti-tourism meaning, as caching (usually) takes us to amazing places no tourist would ever find on their own.

Facitman is a promotional figure for the adding machine company Facit (pronounced far-sit) used from the 1950s to 1970s. I picked up a 4" tall plastic one at a computer show back in the early 80's and he travelled around on my car dashboard for a number of years. He happened to be sitting next to the computer when I was trying to think of a username for geocaching!
He likes to count so is perfect for this game, which of course is not about the numbers
