Monochrome Oz Geocaching Logo

Post by dak's Emu Mob » 02 December 03 8:07 pm

G'day,

I'm thinking of making up some labels for caches, like the ones advertised on gc.com--dull green background with black gc logo etc. Click here to see it.

I've duplicated the Geocaching Australia logo in basic black, using CorelDRAW, but I have a design problem. There are several ways to draw a monochrome logo: with squares around the (previously) coloured areas; joining up the gaps in the map to remove the impression of squares; allowing the dots to fall in the "blank" areas (they are there if you look carefully at a good quality copy of the logo); or cut out the dots in the "blank areas". And then there are the negative versions.

It's hard to visualise, so I've mocked up four possibilities and put them in a PDF file. I've marked them A, B, C, and D, and I've included the colour version for reference.

Here is a link to the PDF file: Click here.

I'd appreciate any opinions as to which logo is best; please reply to this post if you'd like to comment. If you would like a copy of the final artwork/logo, drop me an email via the usual geocaching channels.

Something has just occurred to me: is there already an official monochrome version of the logo?

Cheers,

Option D is the only one that works for me: it keeps the shape of the colour logo much better than the others.

I also like option D, but just to throw a curve ball, what does it look like as a Greyscale image?

Greyscale Logo

Post by dak's Emu Mob » 03 December 03 11:19 am

The looney one asked how a greyscale version of the logo would look.

You can see one here.

Just for the record, I like D as well.

Another thought: If I decided to have some stickers printed professionally, would anyone be interested in buying them—at cost price, plus postage? Do people think they are actually needed? I'm thinking two sizes: one for micro caches, and a larger one for Tupperware-sized caches.

Cheers,

Do you have any idea of a price as yet?

Oz Geocaching Sticker

Post by dak's Emu Mob » 03 December 03 4:21 pm

I haven't looked into pricing or anything like that. My sole intention was to produse stickers on a colour laser printer for my own personal use. The commercial element didn't occur to me until my previous post.

However, I'll speak to a local printer in the next day or two and get an estimate on price. I'll get back to you.

Cheers,

Cache Stickers

Post by Bronze » 03 December 03 11:58 pm

I concur with a aforementioned 'D'.

If you choose a sticker thats going to last I'd be happy to buy some. I'd be happy with $2 or max $3 a sticker. I normally budget $20 all up for each cache and contents. One less item is worth a sticker.

It'll put the Bomb squad guy at ease thats for sure!

The Bronze.

Might be good for a screen print as well. Heaps cheaper than 5 colours.
