RANT: How hard is it to read a TB objectives?

Post by Aushiker » 01 February 06 11:44 am

Hi

[Rant].

I have two travel bugs, Easting and Northing both of which are part of a cache here in Perth and have objectives to stay in caches within 30 km of Perth. The objectives are both on the Travel Bug pages and on the bugs themselves as laminated cards.

Twice now I have had finders indicate that they are going to take them out of Perth. One was going to take it back to the UK and now a Brisbane cacher is going to take one to Brisbane! The UK cacher got abusive when the bugs objectives where pointed out to her and I was told it was my fault. I ended up having to go her accomodation to pick it up.

No response yet by the Brisbane cacher. 399 finds so not a novice either.

Why is so hard to read a bug's objectives when they are attached to the bug! This is sooo frustrating.

[/Rant]

Okay, glad I got that off my chest :-) Feel better now. Any suggestions as to how to reduce this possiblity further?

Regards

They have laminated cards attached? Sounds like they do...

Yep. You can see them in the photos in the Travel Bug pages. If they had gone missing I would have been told as the card contains the coordinates for the cache. The bugs are useless without them :-)

Hi
Last night when I recieved the log about this bug I sent off an email to the finder and pointed out the bugs mission.
I told the person to contact you Andrew or myself.

How hard can it be.

Replace the laminated card with one that reads -

Take it where ever you darn well want to.

Fairly hard to disobey that.

While I still class myself as a relative beginner (98 finds), I learnt early on that there is little point in (1) placing caches with special swap requirements (2) setting loose TBs with special goals. Pity, but true.

Add a point or two to the terrain rating of UTM, depending on what State or country the required TBs are in!

Sigh, 'tis unfortunate. This could be one of those situations where you name names and we all send narky emails to the offenders. :p I can sort of understand someone making an honest mistake, but to get abusive when it's their fault isn't reasonable.

Maybe a doppleganger of each TB will make the cache that the TBs refer to more robust.

Doppleganger?

As an aside I am hoping the cacher in question will once they get the email contact me, realise the error and post the bug back. If they don't then I will really be PO.

I'm not aware of any cachers on 399! (Gca stats) and only one other than myself who is greater...

With those criteria you may as well have said their name to some other qlders and as such, is not very discreet. By all means have your rant, just keep names (or identities) out of it!!

Rant off

BTW, I try to keep TB goals where possible however at the end of the day, it is something that is somewhat out of your control when placed in a cache, found by humans :D. The proliferation of "goaless" caches are making genuine TB goals less likely to be achieved.

Don't quite follow your rant. It is a simple matter of looking up me on GC and working out the Travel Bug and thus the cacher in question. What do you want me to do, delete their log from the travel bug page so as to hide their identity?

BTW according to the GC.com stats the cacher has 399 finds ... and they logged in yesterday, but no response. Hopefully just haven't checked their email.

Thanks for the clarification. I have a backup that I can put out if necessary. Was hopping, no expecting that that the bugs objectives would be respected.
