looks great
why not make it trackable here? this would save US$150 "icon setup" and US$1.50 per coin, plus hopefully promote this site
your thoughts?

trackable coins

Post by ADAcache » 12 December 05 8:13 am

Ideology,

I would love to have the coins track at GCA, however, they then wouldn't show up on the international site. I know that it is very shallow, but, I like to have the different icons for the coins that I have found show up in my stats.

this may not be a big problem for others, so i am willing to bow to the majority rule thing.

since this coin has been thrashed out in the forums, I am willing to submit to the overall decision. let me know what you think about the tracking

Although a big supporter of this site, I would rather see it GC trackable.

Maybe a poll?

some responses

Post by ADAcache » 12 December 05 8:40 am

OK,

The current cost for the coins is running at $9.50, but there has only been responses to account for 120 coins. If the coins get to 250 then the cost should drop below $9 and the more that are ordered (I will stop at 1000 in the first run) the lowest possible cost would be $7.50 a coin.

I will also start a poll for the tracking of the coin as it seems to be the final concern for cachers.

Is there an entry in the wiki about geocoins? I couldn't find it.

The trick would be to somehow get the word out to those Australians who don't read this forum.

Only a small % of cachers shop here - many interested buyers won't even know this is in the wind..

maybe put notes to link to this forum on a couple of your most watched caches - that should pick up a few in ACT/NSW?

And having more geocoins visit Oz will help Aussie cachers have more of an awareness of them; I know a cacher in the US who is visiting soon and bringing 12 geocoins with him!

I agree with having a maximum run of each edition - if this is the same (1000 as suggested) then the relative value is preserved across editions.

Just my 2c worth... your mileage may vary....

Maybe I aint getting something with this geocoin thread?

I remember this thread and a post of someone that tried to get this off the ground a while ago. http://forum.geocaching.com.au/viewtopi ... sc&start=0

A post in there states Aust made geocoins for around the $2.50 mark, maybe up to $3.50 with a bit of profit to cover someone holding them all after manufacture.

So lets add the Extortion, I mean Geo.com tracking fee or the fee free fee ! if tracked on geo.com.au.

That makes a total of about $5.00.

This is about 50% cheaper than the ones being proposed here? (And Aust made). Wouldn't it be better going with these?

As I said, maybe something changed in pricing or otherwise, but I havent read it yet..

And would it be "better" to have the coins avaliable through the geo-shop instead of just one user ?
Just a thought, easier for someone to track down then, go to where the geo gear is sold..

The ones I was getting quotes on ages ago were small and of a far less quality than the ones now being discussed.

geocoins

Post by TEAM WOMBAT » 14 December 05 9:37 am

I am very interested in these coins, just a suggestion, can you keep a record of all interested aussie cachers and notify them by email as soon as these coins are available and perhaps collect cash prior to placing the order, I would prefer to pay by direct deposit as I do not have a credit card to use on the internet (ie: paypal etc)

Regards team wombat

I love the idea and agree that the kangaroo or a Koala is better than something from Sydney.
Does the coin have to be in colour? Could it be cheeper and better looking if it was a real coin with the images samped into the surface, with more of a 3D image :?:
