How to find caches before a drive interstate.

Post by voogoo_fish » 14 June 05 5:17 pm

Hello,

I'm sure there is a good way to work out where caches are interstate (and on the way) before you go, but I'm new to all this caching.

I am driving from Adelaide - Melbourne soon and wondered what others did to prepare for caching on the way (trip breakup activities etc)

cheers

Voogoofish.

Get a map. Look for major towns on the way. Do a post code search. Check the direction arrows. Look for logs stating "found on the way from X to Z". Print pages or write a few notes (my choice). It's always easyer the second time  .
A great way to break the drive. Be sure to be equiped with a in car power lead (saves remembering 30km past the cache  )
Also helpful if you have them : Laptop / PDA GSAK Geotoad etc etc

I search for caches from my home co-ords with compass filters eg: east, north east using GSAK. You can also use the poscode search and distances.
Then I load those caches into ozi-explorer and manually scroll through the maps to my destination marking down all the caches that I want to do on the way.

If you have Ozi-explorer or the likes and the mapping it is even easier, load all the caches in and look at what you would like to do on the way.

when I get finished with my Dubbo logging, I might create a bookmark list of caches to do on the melbourne - adelaide trip. There are several, but not too many.

Here's a start. Theres a couple more coming into the outskirts of melbourne, round Bacchus Marsh and one near kryal kastle that I haven't added yet. Keep an eye on it for growth.

Plus if anybody knows any more that have popped up or are reasonable for the trip, please let me know and I will add them.

That'd actually be Mrs Cached - but it's always p!$$ funny when people get it wrong.

Updated bookmark list.

Hadnt used the bookmarky thing before, heres mine to replace the post 2 up!

I have taken the liberty of thinking your not going to be in a 4wd and have removed any of the more serious 4wd caches. (Only a couple).
