Garmin do offer firmware upgrade for their units. That is how I found out about Geocaching, I was downloading the firmware update for Garmin 12 and found the link.

I stand corrected...I must have been given some bad info by a dodgey sales person...(still like being able to load and view maps and vertical height profiles)
