I must admit that the 2 girls I have gone out with since I got serious about caching didn't get the concept. They held it better when I described it like a treasure hunt.

The first understood the concept but was too scared of snakes to wade into foot high grass looking for it, the 2nd seemed to enjoy it but a couple of weeks later when she wanted to break up told me it was a stupid hobby. Despite most of the few we found together (Yorke Peninsula) actually taking us to quite scenic spots. I did try and explain that most out of town caches are placed because people want others to visit that spot because it is special. And most were.

Oh well, I will stay with my single geek status.

Nyet. You shouldn't have to explain any more than the concept, better still, make no mention and offer to do something they have never seen or done before (daylight works best for that sort of suggestion).

Go to a special place, ask if they know what a GPS is...explain it and GC in laymans terms and then say "Ooooh there is one nearby! Should we try to find it?"

If they say no, pretend to drop the GPS, swear loudly while proclaiming that was the only way out of here and you only had one to find your way home anyway.

If, on the other hand, they say yes...then you are IN!

I hear ya Rich, I'm lucky that Michele actually enjoys it, although she didn't initially, but that was becuase there were 3 DNF's in a row, first day out. One turned out to be muggled, the second one buried by earthworks, and the third was becuase we lost interest after the first 2. I persisted though, and now she loves the possibility of finding a new 'spot'. I think there might be a standard response that your girlfriends are supposed to give, becuase a lot of my female friends, single or otherwise think it's great and love coming out with us, but if it were suggested by their boyfriend they'd intentionally 'not get it' too.

Yeah mate, I know she did enjoy most of the finds. They did lead us to nice views and spots and she was postivie.

She just put it down when she wanted to break up anyway. Then called the hobby stupid, even though she enjoyed the places it took us on our Yorke weekend and was concerned about littering.

I give up on undestanding women, I don't think it's possible (apology to all women cachers reading this).

Speaking as a woman cacher...these are the easiest multis I can get and the only real virgins I know of in the area.
P.S. Don't lump us women all into a stereotype. I LOVE caching and am the one that motivates everyone else or just even heads out alone to get the virgin. 4 a.m. is not unknown. (Yes, I am still talking about caches!)

:D No worries, I am not lumping all women into the same boat. I know plenty of teams out there that consist of husband and wife, boyfriend and girlfriend etc. And single women cachers. Just need to meet one

Sorry, just been a bit depressed lately after the recent breakup and work also giving me the sh*ts at the moment.

How about ... "is $50.00 enough?"
$50? that is 25 2Dollarshop items, that would fill up any cache! :p

Richard, you know we love you for all your geekiness and I'm just going to remind you again and again until your listening....That woman did not deserve you, and did not appreciate you for the kind hearted, wonderful geek that you are.

And believe me Richard, there are female cachers out there who are much more enthusiastic about caching than their boyfriends - but we're just lucky because men will pretty much tolerate anything as long as it gets them S 42° . . . E 146°

Got to stop saying personal stuff in forums  Doesn't matter  Thanks Pandaabear, it will pass.

And Snuva, you are right as well. Us guys can be pretty tolerant as long as there is a payback. 8)
