LOL, "another gig", Telstra has a '10gig then 64KB capped' policy on its cable....it doesnÂ’t happen. I did 22 gigs in December and 16 in January. Every month for the last 5 month I have been over and there is no speed reduction.

Wanna bet?

I did 34 gig and got the restriction email after 12 gig.

Then they capped it, and the speeds throttled back to slower than modem speeds.
Kept lodging complaints until they finally sent a tech to the amplifiers to unrestrict it .

The speed was shocking, I couldnt even ping a mail server !

They admit that if your restricted it usually flakes out at about 2 kb not 64 !

Believe me, you'll know when you are restricted.

*Oh* And that was the first month ever I went over 10 gig !

I sat easy for a couple and went to 11 gig last month, got the email, but no restriction, though I wasnt on the connection last week of the month.

Lol, well I dont know what it is, a couple of my friend here in Brisbane also have BP cable and they havnt been capped. A check of my BP inbox shows 3 warnings at 8 gig for the last 5 months.

Jan: 16.9 Gig
Dec: 22.3
Nov: 18.7
Oct: 10.1
Sep: 14.3

* Speeds may be slowed to 64 kbps after 10GB
It doesnt happen to me!

EDIT: A tech apparently came by to put a ferite magnet on the cable to reduce the signal. Apparently a few people in the area had power levels too high. There was a thing on Whirlpool about it, happened on the Gold Coast. They never got to touch my modem!

Not Sure about that ? Ferrite on a cable usually just smooths the signal from spikes etc. Never know though.

Power is fairly regulated on cable, I am the only one on the amplifier in this suburb. ( yay! all mine).

When I said power I ment the signal strength was too strong. I know what a ferite magnet can do but I dont know exactly what they where trying to fix. Signal or power, something like that.

I will see if I can find out what it was that they put in.

Just out of curisoity, you say your the only one amplified in your area....what are your modems readings?

Leave out the 'personal stuff' IP etc..

I had no idea that my innocent comment would spark such a violent thread hijack...

Just to bring it back on topic:

WARNING!!!! OT!!!!!
*************************************************************
Bigpond "Unlimited" ADSL accounts have the same threat of 64k cap after 10GB, but we've never had it imposed (25GB, 36GB, 41GB, 16GB, 46GB)
;)
