Cache Attire - What's ya garb?

Post by Bronze » 20 January 05 2:27 pm

So do you dress up. Casual, functional - full on dag or go the whole Harry Butler thing?
Yes pipe down Eco-team we know you like to dress up.

What do you wear when caching? - $100 vented cotton shirts, vinnies seconds overalls or board shorts and sandals.

I did a take on the typicals but looking around the fellow Red Ochre Cachers I think I'm out in a league of my own? No doubt Mix will have a name for it!

For one, there not as stunningly beautiful and prepared as mwa

[edit] ...and yes I carry two of everything because as Mix and Body Ftepping Freak[Thanks mate} can attest - I'm good at leaving more than a swap behind at caches!

Guess who this spunky trendsetter is?

And I'm setting a trend myself. not!

Scott will take two sets of shoes when we go out caching. His steel cap boots (when theres a bush walk to be done), and joggers (for when its easy walking on paths etc). He will wear long (king gee work type) pants, and a shirt (keeping a long sleeve jacket in the car in case of cold/mozzies/other crawlies that bite).

We also have a caching bag (a decent sized backpack-makes us look like tourists!) that has torches/swaps/spare batteries/anything else we may need on a hunt in it. It also holds our bucket hats (thanks OzNaturist :) ) They're not as spunky as the I! gear ones- but they do their job! (How does one get an I! gear bucket hat?)

We also take our esky if we will be away from home for anymore than about an hour or so, half filled with ice and with at least one two litre drink in it (usually lemonade or coke), plus three drink bottles (thanks again OzNaturist!!) filled with water (or cordial for Rhi) for taking on walks to caches.

I usually wear long pants of some descript (prefer my jeans or those pants with lots of pockets-can't think what they're called). I wear my joggers if I have to go bush (don't have any fancy boots), or my thongs (pretty ones) if its trail walking.

Rhi wears long pants, and long sleeve shirts where possible, although she sometimes wears short sleeve shirts and takes her long sleeve jacket (usually carried by dad in the backpack!) She also wears joggers, or her boots (flash cowgirly type ones) when she's got to tramp bush.

ATM we're digitally challenged- will post pics at a later date :)

Today - work clothes. On the way back from a work trip to Yorke Peninsula.

But if I plan a cache run during the day I will evaluate the likely terrain and choose whether or not to put on hiking boots and/or long pants. Otherwise whatever I would normally bum around in

I dress quite casual actually on a t shirt and shorts or long pants depending on weather. bringing my cache printouts if there is a hint to decrypt or a multicache, a hat. No sunnies for me I wear glasses all the time. The only other item i bring with me as close as I can to a cache is my XF, which turns from a Shiny white colour to a Brown colour when im done. Fully equiped with just about anything to get me out of any serious bog or ditch. Haha, rememinds me of using my spare tyre to get me out of a ditch once. I bring a coat for the rain, and a second set of shoes in the boot. I carry a thermoflask on hot days or long walks. The GPS always comes too, and a mobile phone. and about 4 pens. I got a bad habit of losing many of my pens. I sometimes bring a walking stick. No im not frail, they are good for getting rid of spider webs, and for poking down things where you woudn't stick your hand.

I typically wear jeans and a T-shirt. I used to wear ordinary sneakers but they came apart after a few months of heavy use. I now wear my Rossi hiking boots which provide comfort, support (no sprained ankles), water-proofing, and GOOD grip (you should see the tread on them). I carry a little bum-pack which came from a $2 shop and is falling apart already. It contains spare batteries, swaps, and pens. I used to carry a big wad of printouts but they have been replaced by a neat little HP PDA which contains all the caches for Victoria as well as a bunch of OziExplorer maps. 8) I do have an old briefcase which contains sundry larger items such as teddy bear TBs and a larger collection of $2 items. But the case stays in the boot of the car. I would feel really stupid carrying a briefcase on a cache hunt. I also carry a digital camera for taking scenic pictures around the cache as well as a picture of the log sheet in case I could not be bothered copying it all by hand. Photos are also good for clues such as the ones in "The 13th Cache". I also carry a notepad (paper variety) and pen because I can write faster than poke around on a PDA. This may change in the future. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I also carry a GPS with me. I probably should wear a hat but I never really think of it.

When choosing to actually wear attire to caches (see http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx ... b490de6f53)
I often opt for a Scout T-Shirt.

Image

The idea being :

Muggle : Hey! What do you think you're doing????
Cached: Oh, it's for Scouts! We're working out an activity.
Muggle : Scouts? Oh, OK then, have a good day! (Cheery Wave)

We both wear jeans or cargo pants, boots, t-shirt, hat, sunnies and have the back pack with all essential caching gear: digital camera, swaps, spare cache containers, log books, pens, headlight torches and probably a lot of other stuff I don't know that was there. We also have jackets in the 4wd for the wet and cold.
