Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that you or anyone else only donated to get a smiley, and I've edited out that line.leek wrote:I was pretty shocked that it would even enter someone's head that I would make a charitable donation just so I could log a cache find, so I have already changed mine to a note...
I guess I worry that obvious special cases tend set a precedent for slightly less obvious cases, then debatable ones, then trivial ones. I like the fact that I don't get my nose rubbed in people's causes when I look at cache listings.
I'm with TPTB on this one, including their anguish at having to enforce the guidelines in this case.

I wasn't referring to you BL... I was referring to the sickos on the secondary forums...Bear_Left wrote:Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that you or anyone else only donated to get a smiley, and I've edited out that line.

I have to agree if they allowed the 9-11 cause and just recently (although not a cache) there was an auction for one of El Diablo's Hiking Staffs with the proceeds going to charity openly allowed by Groundspeak.
Another thought
Maybe if you turn the cache into a Travel Bug/Swaggie ... I can't see anywhere these rules apply to TB's??CraigRat wrote:I tell you what, I'm glad they closed the thread, I was getting a bit fired up reading their US-Centric views.
As someone said... there was a thing done for Sept 11.....

Strangely enough, I find myself understanding everyones side in this one. If you keep an open mind and look at it without taking emotions into account, almost everyone from all sides seems to have a valid point in some way.
Like it or hate it, it's GC.com's playground and they have the final say. Some good was done, thousands of dollars were raised, that's great.
How can anyone get upset about raising thousands for the appeal while the door was left open?
Lets not get upset about it, how about we go Geocaching?

Converted my find to a note as well.
** Change to a note, we don't need a find to donate and add to the total; the arrogance of some GC forum users!!
** Resolved NEVER to pay GC.com $$ after the closure of this cache **
If a Sep-11 charity cache was acceptable, closing this was hypocracy.
cheers Darren

Hi Embi, done for my donation...Maybe all the "finds" can be changed to notes and show that it wasnt about the numbers??? Think about it

we can't believe that groundspeak would turn its back on raising money for what must be one of the biggest catastrophes in modern history. given that they don't want to list the cache, we offered to list it instead. so with team piggy's permission, it's now the first proper cache on geocaching australia.
Asia Quake and Tsunamis Appeal (Australia)
we've copy and pasted our log into the new cache. we put it in as a find because we think that donating to like this just as (if not more!) important as finding a piece of tupperware. you are welcome to put your log in however you see fit.
we hope the listing here can help the cache reach its new goal of $15,000!

What a load of Bullshit.
Now I know why it's called secondary.
I'm not even going to bother looking at GC.com to see if they put a "How to Donate to Victims" link up because that would be a waste of time. If the money isn't going to America then it's not going to happen!
I am really disappointed in Geocaching.com what a sad day. I can see their point of view but there is no reason why a cache can't be hosted with a multi list giving the finder the opportunity to decide on how they will donate.
I know where my membership dollars will be going.

I'd love to have a look at it... but I can't get into the original Tsunami cache or the cache that you mentioned... and I can't logon to the gc.com site...embi wrote:Thought you might like to see this

Maybe I've been barred due to my strong comment on the cache... or maybe I'm just paranoid... or maybe gc.com is technically unsound...
