Norfolk Island

Post by Goldenwattle » 16 October 19 7:21 pm

I can see that Lord Howe Island has a trig, but I cannot see any trigs (or caches) on Norfolk Island. Is this correct?

There are a few trigs listed on an old map dated 1934 (https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-232790462/view). Who knows what they classified as a trig though. One called 'Buffet's Pole' was probably just that. A pole. Would be interesting to explore the island and check out these spots. Apparently there was some sort of marker or survey point on Mt Pitt, but it was removed to install a picnic table.

There's an interesting survey marker:
https://geocaching.com.au/log/18250387
That matches up to the marker on the map at Point Hunter.
You might need to visit and check them out and if applicable, list them.

There is one GCA cache, GA3138 - a virtual based on the survey marker mentioned by caughtatwork, and 52 GC caches on Norfolk Island. The challenge cache GC5MWTJ has a map showing all current GC caches on Norfolk. As yet no Trig Points.

I have emailed about GA3138, with a photograph.
I found the last Norfolk Island GC cache yesterday and then logged the Challenge cache for finding them all. There were 56, including a CITO.

I visited two survey marks today and photographed them. One at S29° 3.734' E167° 57.719' (Endeavour3's coordinates) and the marker found in the virtual cache GA3138. This last one now has a metal survey mark added, so the photograph of that alone could be used, which wouldn't show the coordinates in the concrete of GA3138. I could publish them (although I don't want to muck up GA3138) if other's agree. What do other's think, and then what state map do I use for Norfolk Island?

Well done! =D>

I'd be asking Endeavour what state they associate with if they have to. They are technically their own country, aren't they?

Not really their own country any more. They vote in an ACT electorate and use the NSW school system, etc. But it depends where they occur on Geocaching Australia. Which State? If they occur at all on one of the geocaching state maps. Do they?

They have their own country code so they are not collected as part of the AU collection.
As such we have no LGA or dZ defined for locations other than AU.

No reason you can't add them if you find them. I added a few NZ ones before the import happened from other sources.

Huh? You can add a TrigPoint to any location in any country around the world. Just use the appropriate country from the country selection (i.e. Norfolk Island).

They won't appear in an LGA because their country code is not AU. They won't appear in a dZ because their country code is not AU (NZ has no dZ's either).
