Finding Own Caches

With the future direction of our website being guided by caching community, I'd like to see what cachers thoughts are on players finding and logging their own caches. Do you log and find your own caches? I've been playing at Geocaching Australia since Jan 2011 and have noticed an increasing trend of cachers logging their own caches over the last year or so.

Any thoughts?

I've logged my own movables before, because I didn't hide it.

I've logged my own locationless before.

These are a bit different than your regular hides (in my mind).

I've also logged my own moveables, but only when I've found them in the wild and usually after they have been out of my hands for quite a while after publication, and then only once, as is my practice for any cache.

While we're on the topic, I'd be interested in thoughts about logging caches more than once. My own view of the world is that once I've logged a cache once, then that's it. The exception is moveables, but even then I don't log a second find, instead I log a 'Note' so that others know that I've collected the cache to move it along.

I will find my own moveables once they have been moved, sometimes more than once if they have moved to a different location. Locationless I haven't really bothered listing myself, I guess you could "cheat" by listing one you know you could find a lot of something because there are a lot in your area. But I don't tend to find a locationless more than once even if I come across the same thing that qualifies in a different location. Personal preference.

Finding your own physical non moveable cache is a bit of a no-no to me as you know where it should be. But everyone plays the game in their own way and I'm not competing with anyone else. There is other cheating going on with fake finds, or one person finds a cache and writes the names of some friends in the log so they can log it online. I'm past worrying about it, in my mind they are only cheating themselves. But for some people numbers are all that is important.

I have a zillion of virtual caches entered by me to do :-)

But physical ones? Not really, they're for the joy of others.

Never log my own cache.

I've never logged my own caches except locationless. I'd probably log my own moveable ones once if they crossed my path.

There would have to be a good reason to log your own hides. I can't think of any at all myself. Numbers of finds, streaks (which are just more numbers), filling your calendar or any geocaching grid (again more numbers) is not a good reason in my opinion.

I have and will continue to log my own moveables and locationless caches if I happen upon them out in the wild. I also log my own events. I do not log my other cache types.
I fail to see the reason behind anyone logging their own trad/multi/unknown caches. But, we all play our own way.

I don't suppose these sorts are the same that log archived caches that are clearly stated as being transferred to GC? If I wanted people to log such caches on both sites I would have left the GCA ones active. That's not playing the game the way it's meant to be played. [-X

I am an archived cache hunter. I hunt for caches that have clearly been abandoned in the wild, not ones that have clearly had a change of listing site. [-(

Maybe when archiving a cache the CO should have the option to lock it in the same way some GC ones are when moderators step in.

I can't delete the recent logs these archived caches!
I hope they didn't get any dZ privileges out of them, especially the dZ bag.

No-one can apart from the owner of the log and the GCA administrators. The GCA administrators don't get involved in correspondence between geocachers. It's up to y'all to sort it through. The GCA Admin Review logs have been removed and access to that account restricted to just the site admins.

I log my own moveables once they have been moved and rehidden. I need to check my stats to see if I have logged moveables more then once (I am pretty sure I have). I plan to go in and delete the double-ups coz it does distort your stats.

We log our own moveables after they have been found and rehidden by others. We also find our own Locationless. We only find a cache of any type once. We do move moveables more than once but pick them up with a note rather than a found log if we have found them previously. This is our personal choice. Others have their own preferences as to how many times and what caches they find multiple times and thats OK. After all its an individual game.
