We didn't struggle on any hill with or without the trailer. And any cache in the middle of the desert would stump the vitara because it couldn't carry enough fuel. :D

Don't worry Rich, we'll give you a ride in our Big Red Hilux, with the long range tanks! She'll hold 125l of the finest Middle Eastern Hydrocarbons, which gets us from Adelaide to Melbourne in one hit. (Not that any of us want to go to Melbourne!)

Don't mind giving you a lift any excuse to go on a holiday and get caches. Think about it carefully which vehicle you would like to go in, I would go the Patrol (150lt diesel tank), Hilux's roll to easy.

Zook - more comfortable :D As for fuel, if I wanted to pay 4WD Systems a stupid amount for an extra 40 litres I could do that. Easier to carry jeries.

After the recent Aust 4WD Monthly article on a standard one doing the Simpson, I think I need to do it.

We travel around in our Navara 4x4 and we've also got a Pulsar Ti for around town. Both sporting Geocaching.com stickers on the back for easy ID.

The Navara is much better than the VS Commodore it replaced - goes further, uses less fuel and carries a lot more. Will also be handy for moving stuff when our new home gets built!!!

Hmph! :?

... I'm biting my tongue till I get my broken Landcruiser back up & running

--------------------
But in the mean time ...

A hardtop Halflinger, I welded in the cylinders of a Landrover sidevalve 6 then bored in 11 new cylinders in a Orbital formation with a 100mm holesaw to take it out to 400ci, fitted double overhead RX7 cams and triple Dominators running KFC biodiesel and Red Slurpee Injection. I run a B&D Pornstar Shifter linked to a 1 speed auto and a Malvern Star 5 speed chaindriven transfer case and quad Lockwood difflocked spools.

Suspension is a full floating Chesney front end and the rear independant Casio controlled air suspension with a 4"x2" hardwood antisway bar welded between the 44 drum backing plates. The middle suspension is buggy leaf with twin traction bars. The PTO drives a pair of spare ABS fitted 45inch whitewall Mudslicks on the roof with Quad locknuts per wheel and roofing screws used to convert it from 3 stud to 7 stud pattern.

I ditched the factory 250A alternator and run a 5000w inverter hooked up to a "E" cell Eveready with twin 4phase 106 series outlets hooked up to 400A Superworks battery charger. I use a nipple pink lowered Pajero bonnet scoop to hide a 12 inch bug catcher. The interior is setup for hosing out with 12 inch funky purple shagging pile, halogen downlights and triple 400mm mirrorballs synchronized to the 9 track triphonic tape deck & Short Wave Tuner. Seats are full recliners by Ikea. And a extended king-size waterbed mattress in the back for the Ladies.

I've tried to run it on the 1/4 mile but they won't let me use chains :-)

Not because I want to ... because I can. 8)

The Swampgecko Clan is proud to announce the latest addition to it's geocaching equipment stable....... Image A 2002 Pajero GLX V6 Auto. We have already undertaken 4WD Driver training, well one more day of training to go... Mrs Clare Gecko is behind the wheel in this photo, she is now hooked on getting filthy...

The trusty meticulously built Russian Lada
It is very capable and will go anywhere, now if I could just work out how to insert photos I'd post one here.

Currently our caching mobile is a 2004 Ti Nissan Xtrail, but as of mid Sept we take ownership of a brand stinking new Turbo Diesel Prado Vx.

Now if I remember correctly it has a fuel tank capacity of hmmm... ah thats right 180lts. Should get me across town :)

Used to drive a 1987 XF Falcon, that thing was close to cooking an engine so now I drive a 1997 EL Falcon Futura 5 soeed manual..

Uses heaps less petrol than the XF and goes harder.
