G.A daily updates

Post by Blingg » 10 July 16 12:22 pm

In today's "Changed Caches " update all the Changed Caches? were updated with the Final Co-ords of Puzzle and Multi caches as were the changes in the past two weeks. [-X Where did the co-ords come from as theoretically only the owner of the cache and the reviewer have access to them. :-"

Someone who has corrected co-ordinates (i.e. they have solved the puzzle) in their local copy (probably GSAK) database has uploaded them. Please give me an example and I'll see who did the upload and let them know.

OR:
someone has solved them, and accidentally uploaded their GSAK version with the corrected co-ords. Nothing untoward or nafarious, just an 'oops' moment.
This has been the cause nearly all the time.

It is programatically impossible for us to determine the difference between an actual co-ord change and something like this.

Myself, I reckon we shouldn't be putting co-ord updates in the feed.

Thanks. I've written to the person to let them know and ask that they check before next imported corrected co-ords.

I notice this cache appears almost every second day:

π r² by contactpete (Heatherbrae) 121.77km North East
GCA: http://geocaching.com.au/cache/gc64k7z
Other: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... wp=gc64k7z
Google Map: http://geocaching.com.au/cache/gc64k7z.gmap
Changes:
- Name: p r² -> π r²

It seems to pick up the pi symbol and change it to a P then change it back, so on ad infinitum.

Not bothered by it, just intrigued.

Known problem based on the UTF8 character set provided by GC.

Yes that must stuff up searches. If the symbols were not used as the first character it wouldn't be a problem you'd think.

Here's that cache again going back to what it was...

It's happened again this morning, [-X , 32 of the 36 updates being final co-ords of puzzle caches . If this persists what will be the point of creating a puzzle cache :?: :?: :?: #-o #-o

We have a fix in place that will revert the co-ordinates and should now allow them through any more. Please remember this is a community member who is loading the data. It is not GCA who is sourcing it and loading it. While we appreciate you are frustrated, please do not direct you anger at us. We're trying to help by working the situation, putting in code changes and requesting that people do not load corrected co-ordinates on the import page.

Those changes were the final coordinates being changed back again to the listed coordinates and with the fix mentioned by caughtatwork they should not change again.

On a similar vein to updates coordinates, the daily email often contains Changed Caches with coordinates that have not changed. What's causing the "changed" flag?

Decimals too small to display. Co-ordinates come through as integers and decimals and they are converted to the format below for display. If the value changes but the display doesn't you still get to see the change even though there is nothing visual.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I suspected it was related to insignificant decimals.
