Reward for recovery of Aus "Project Ape" Cache containers

In Early 2001 - Groundspeak (Geocaching.com) in conjunction with 20th Century Fox placed 12 special geocaches around the world to promote the release of the movie "Planet of the Apes". These caches were known as Project A.P.E. or "Alternative Primate Evolution". These caches are an important piece of Geocaching history. Only one of these caches still exists - in Brazil.

Of the 12 Project A.P.E caches deployed around all around the world, There were two caches placed in Australia -

Mission 11: GC1412 Tallow's Sand - near Byron Bay, New South Wales Placed August 2001 - missing some time before May 2002

Misson 8: GC1058 Wattle's Edge - Burwood, Victoria, Australia - Placed August 2001 - missing October 2001
http://coord.info/GC1058
Both of the cache containers and their contents went missing in 2001, and most likely have been found by accident and taken home by a local, kids, park workers etc. They may be being used as storage in a garage somewhere, holding junk in the shed or be hiding in a storage unit.

These two caches are an important piece of history and of significant interest to the sport of Geocaching, so Geostuff.com.au is offering a reward for each of the two original Australian Project Ape geocache containers "No questions asked"

Help spread the message and see whether the original containers can be recovered.

Yep, it was when Jeremy figured he could spin a buck or two whoring out the game for unrelated purposes

but it would be amazing if it was found and could be re-instated!! Imagine the tourism opportunities in that for Melbourne :)

Reinstated yes. But not in the original location. It was very exposed. A better location in the same park would be most excellent.

Well we believe we know where the original container for GC3E Lane Cove (Australia's first cache) is, it turns out the ranger that removed it held on to the container and moved up to near Port Macquarie when he retired. We (as in Geocaching NSW) held an event up there earlier this year and he saw the Geocaching sign and came over for a chat while Calypso62 and Zalgariath were setting up.

We hoped to have it back in time for the 15 year anniversary event and surprise the CO with it, but unfortunately the guy hasn't had time to look for it in his garage due to having to deal with a close family member undergoing cancer treatment. And that obviously takes precedence over a plastic box!

Any news in the last 5 years on this?

Unfortunately not, he never seemed to be available when someone offered to go there from memory. I think Zal might have been the closest to the action in terms of contacting him.
