Saw this story in the Groundspeak email today:

The Travel Bug that Survived a Wildfire

Shows that ammo cans aren't fireproof! I found an ammo can that had endured a grass fire in NQ. Contents were okay but the ammo can had gone rusty and I think it had lost its waterproofness.

That's why I almost always hide in rocky situations.

The rubber seals melt... think that kills the rain proofing ;)

Don't underestimate a Sistema though.... It's hard to believe, but here's one that we discovered (and re-discovered) that survived the hellish heat of Black Saturday right in the middle of Marysville

Couldn't believe it when, out of sheer curiosity, reached under to its old hiding place and found it there, intact, and still working perfectly.

I found an ammo can once that had exploded due to been hidden in a tree stump that got burnt by a fire...

Freddo might tell us the story involving the melted Tardis...
