Cache Regret... the one that got away.

Post by Zalgariath » 30 August 13 9:54 pm

Cryptex Babushka http://coord.info/GC2NQ7Q was archieved this week, and is one of those "one day" caches Ive been meaning to find but never found the time... hopefully it will come back in another form.

Got me thinking, what is the best cache you left too long and regretted when the muggles beat you to it, or a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity ended in a DNF?

I had the later happen to me in County Mayo in Ireland where I spent 4 hours assailing a mountain to grab two 5/5's but ended up having to retreat for safety reasons. http://coord.info/GCN8C1 If You're Gonna Be Dumb, You Gotta Be Tough

I never got around to completing GC28WC3 Wherigo Cache "Der Urmelschatz" which was archived last week.

Fantasy wherigos aren't my favourite but I have it on a local kid's authority that this was a good one.
I did start it once but it was broken.

Just as I was getting into caching, Tangles ceased caching and archived a lot of his great hides, which I had on my to do list.

I did do a save of Tangles hides before he left, I wonder if he actually removed them or if they are still there? The ones I did do I loved.

And for most probably realised I should have told someone where I was going beforehand!

Ha! If that is an original line it is just perfect :) Have been in tricky situations so many times 'cause I could do it the hard way (which was supposed to be the easy way in my mind :( ) I'm going to use that in future!

Abandoned Armour http://coord.info/GC70E was just about the only cache that we hadn't done in the whole of Western Victoria before we moved to the Mid North Coast of NSW. Then last year we had an opportunity to go by and search for it and ....what!!! Darn it :(

Around the Grounds (http://coord.info/GC1FVMY) - I spent ages on street view solving this one, then left it until I was in the area. And then street view got updated, so the CO archived the cache :( .

And Archangel (http://coord.info/GC1AATC) - I remember giving another cacher a maths lesson which let him solve the cache & find it, but it was archived before I could get there to claim a find.

All up, I have 11 puzzle caches that have been archived since I solved them & before I could go find the.

Yes there was one in the ACT called "Flight Path" I became a bit obsessed by but it was archived before I solved it which isn't as bad but I wanted to do it.

The 10 year event at Lane Cove. We were only just starting to cache then.

There was also a cool looking cache in Lindfield called Power Control (or something like that) it was a multi that got archived (third stage was missing) but the first stages might still be there.

And MS:0something A mind socket fumble. This one also really looked like fun. Sigh!

And not to mention: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... wp=GC44YKW

This was placed during our trip to Pemberton. And I climbed the tree.

A must do if you're in South Western Australia!

Last year we were driving from Kyogle to Lismore and intended to do the Rock Valley Post Office cache. We missed the turn off and rather than turning around, we decided to leave it for now. Two days later a local cacher the building burnt down.

The post office has been rebuilt and the cache replaced but it just didn't feel the same.

I've got a strong feeling that this cache will be the one that got away: http://coord.info/GC3720
