Geocaching kitsch

Post by Mind Socket » 22 November 04 2:30 pm

At last! Have you ever yearned to stab your eyes out with hot pokers, but didn't have the right reasons? Have you been kept awake at night wondering how to throw away that hard earned cash in your pocket? Are you just really, really (reaalllly) bad at reading instructions on a web site and in need of step by step instructions for finding a box under a rock? Then this is the video for you ...

*sigh* ... and because of the guidelines, it's not even allowed to come with a free set of steak knives.

It would be a fun watch (in the same way that 80s corporate vieos give me a chuckle), but if you needed to keep it at home and review it regularly, I'd be a bit worried!!!

It will be interesting to see if this starts cropping up in caches soon......

The perfect gift for the cacher who has everything, but is missing a clue....

I don't agree with the "Geocaching with Children" section.

I think they'd be much too hard to fit in the little plastic boxes and I don't think they'd like it very much anyway.

"Everything youÂ’ll need to know to get started in geocaching and to maximize your potential for fun and adventure is covered."

Damn, it doesn't say anything about maximizing profits or becoming indepentantly wealthy [:(]

I just found an easter egg on that page too (select the text at the very bottom). Seems to be part of some online hunt.

I too am curious about the geocaching with children part. I'm sure that using a GPSr would give much better reception, and it's more morally acceptable to wedge them between the windscreen and the dashboard.

I hope the video lasts longer than their server did:

Nifty. They've managed to port the poor uptime of gc.com to Linux. Cross-platform unavailability, only $16.95! :)

Must have had their MaxClients set to 2 in the conf file

I am intrigued by this video though... I wonder if it is like all the non-oz caching magazines... you know 2 tips on what to do , 300 on what not to do.........

It's approximately 13182km (great circle) away from home, on a bearing of 244.5 degrees true (226.3 degrees magnetic)

I won't be looking for this one any time soon. :(

I did some hunting and found out that this is part of a Virtual Multi culminating in a regular cache! It's a novel idea allright, and it can't be long until some clever web designer sets it up here. Look up GC258E

Nor are you allowed to watch it while drinking booze next to a terrorist target in a National Park

I'd like to see it out of sheer morbid curiosity!
But if it's anything like the Geocaching book I reviewed a while back, it's full of fluff and pretty much pointless.

I remember someone here had a Geocaching VCD they put together to show people what it's all about?
I think something that shows you *what* it's all about rather than telling you how to do it is a much better idea.
I'd like to have a "highlights package" I could show people when they ask what caching is about.
Video and pictures are great for that.

I'd like to have a "highlights package" I could show people and then ask them what they think the people in the video are doing.
