In the Melbourne Facebook group, a lot of us have been tracing our caching genealogy back in time.
That is, who placed your first find, who placed their first find, .... to see how far back we can go.

Kevin Anderson ...... who placed cache GC46 in New Zealand on 26/5/2000 about 3 weeks after the first cache was placed in the US.
He placed one cache but had no finds, so he is my oldest ancestor.

C@W, on the GCA Genealogy page, I can see how you can add your parent, but it possible to add the rest of this information, for previous generations?

Only the person themselves can add a parent. Until your parent acknowledges their parenthood they are a bastard.

Is this more to do with who introduced you to caching and who you introduced ?

Yes I thought the geneology was more who introduced you to it. Of course, you could have been introduced by randomly finding a cache by accident in which case the hider would be your parent. Otherwise it's whoever got you into it, which could now be hard to trace given the media exposure. Is the local paper your parent?

The genealogy gmj3191 is referring to is an attempt to trace a line of first finds back as far as you can. Mine goes back to "Devils Bend stash" the worlds 68th oldest cache (still active) the trail ends there as the CO is only known as Paul Davis and appears not to have found any caches

I was introduced to geocaching by my wife. She was introduced by a magazine article...will that be an option in the pick-list?

I found out about geocaching when playing with the various functions of my hiking GPS. I had an eXplorist 600 and it had this "geocaching" function. A Google search later, and I was a geocacher ...

The GCA genealogy page is your more traditional type of genealogy (IE: I was introduced to caching by....)

The concept that was introduced on the Geocaching Melbourne page was a variant where you track your genealogy back using the owner of the first cache you found, and the owner of the first cache they found etc.

You tended to end in a loop of a person who hide a cache before they found one, way back in the early days of caching.

Go to the "My Settings" page on GCA. On the right side there is a heading "Genealogy Page" and under that "Edit Genealogy Page"
On this page you can add your Geo-parent and any geo-children you have.

As C@W stated parents will not appear on your genealogy page until they confirm your relationship.

I'm Geo-descended from the mysterious Paul Davis as well, but did not realise that Devil bend was the 68th oldest in the world. Crazy that i could get there in four jumps.

Having started nearly 10 years ago, it will be interesting to see how quick I get back to the beginning.
