Ideas for Activities at a Winter Event

Hi All,

Looking for some ideas/tips on games or info sessions that you have liked when you have attended large events.

We are hosting a 2 day event in the South West of WA in July and hoping to have between 200-300 people attend.

We have only attended 1 large event and that was the NZ Mega in 2012.

So we have some ideas from that and also last year we hosted an event in a Park here in Perth we had 175 people turn up
for 2hours. So we had time to run a BINGO game and a quiz which we endeavoured to partner up an experienced team and
a newbie team so that the newbies got to meet at least 1 other caching team whilst they were at the event.

Both these activities were well received but looking for a bit more now. :-k

Would be grateful [-o< if you could share with us some activities that work well for this number of people. The event is only overnight with registration at 10.00am Saturday and probably finishing lunchtime(ish) on Sunday

Arranging snowfall for the event worked magically for us at last year's Christmas in Winter (Hobart) event! :D

That's probably not helpful is it?

How about a "Beat Chillyrear to the FTF" item? We chain John to some immovable object (and it'll need to be DAMN solid), then get a new cache published a hundred metres away. He watches while 200 teams get a joint FTF... AHEAD OF HIM!

Meanwhile.... trying to be serious here. I will drop you an email tomorrow and tell you about a couple of games we have seen.

First though a couple of questions -
1. Are you after something that can run over the two days?
2. How well do you know Busselton as I am thinking that will be relevant to setting up one game I have in mind. I am thinking that if you don't live down there or are able to go down ahead of time certain games will not be feasible.

Sue :D

Perhaps something like the fun event we attended a few weeks ago - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... b53c4bf10e

Full details are on the page. The game part took us a couple of hours, with stops for other caches on the way.

I'd add a +1 for this idea. It was really great fun

You've done closest to the pin before? where you place a marker with you're name on it where 'you' think GZ is at? Last year I did a twist on it, was called GeoGolf. You are given 5 waypoints to mark, but they are done differently, one/two with just the coords, one where you go to the wp, then project to a second spot and place you're flag, another where you change to UTM and another where you give 3waypoints, and pin the center of the triangle. Afterwards, you measure who has the closest to each, and who has the cumulative closest, as well as furthest for last place.
