All this discussion about Mega events and the like got me thinking.........
There are a few people out there, like me, who enjoy their own company or small groups (2-4) when out caching. (That, or no-one will ever invite you to join them

)
So, how do we best do this on GCA? This is the official GCA thread on organising such an event. I reckon we could get to our very own mega status as long as we all don't do it in the same place!

What a surprising thread to spot

And as a dyed-in-the-wool introvert (I think I blew the scales at work when I did my induction personality profile!) how could I not contribute.
I could imagine an 'event' where the whole idea isn't just about getting into a huge group and talk incessantly

Something like an untimed geogaine where you can just bump into people en route and have chats and introductions as you go about the hunting. That's a lot easier for me personally and more interesting that just making conversation in big crowds of people standing around.

OK, how about a sort of general location, such as around a hill trail? I am thinking of Mount Rogers - not sure why?..... One just goes around the trail at one's own speed, with a label of some sort on, and can chat with other labelled people as one meets them - or if VERY shy, leave label in pocket.

Place it on the top of a mountain in Namadgi, and you are guaranteed small numbers!

I love wikipedia. As it has just taught me something about Agent basils Mystery Cache skills:
One study found that introverts have more blood flow in the frontal lobes of their brain and the anterior or frontal thalamus, which are areas dealing with internal processing, such as planning and problem solving
Apart from that whilst I would attend any event I could (no not for the numbers) I prefer the Mega version... has someone booked the ABBA band for 2015?

Personally I like mega events, though find it hard to catch up with more than a few people after looking for friends I know will be there that I haven't seen for a while. Normal events are more manageable.
Your idea sounds like something to just meet other cachers by chance on the trail for those who don't want to be in a crowd, and I don't see why it couldn't work. I know my partner is/was uncomfortable in crowds, but she has since realised cachers are harmless and holds her own at events even if I am busy doing something else.
I would suggest asking your local reviewer if you can place an event cache that is valid for say 24 hours, doesn't matter where it is as long as a log book will be available. So a slightly out of the way spot if you don't want to sit there, where you can leave a temporary container with the log. If people bump into each other on the trail, great.

You could call it a non-event.
