Geo Art?

Post by Yurt » 12 October 12 4:53 pm

pjmpjm pointed this one out to me today. All I can say is that I'm speechless!

http://www.geocaching.com/map/default.a ... -116.09555

Start zooming out and you will be puffing before too long!

These caches don't appear to be placed on roads or tracks either. Have a look on satellite view at the terrain!
Also note the massively long power trail south of the train and the string of mysteries to the east.

I've seen something vaguely like this before, thanks to AussieCacher over in South Dakota:

Somewhere else I've seen a giant question mark but I can't recall where.

Anyone got any others?

Technically I don't think its a tank engine since its meant to have a tender... Still pretty impressive though.

There are various giant :D s located at various places around the world.
Just here in SA we have a map of SA, a "60" and a "50"...

Yes, but it was a tongue in cheek thing to represent Tankengine, the cacher we have here in the ACT.

Here is one that I spotted on the maps. Next to the Route 66 PT, there is "Geo Art" next to it that was published a few months ago. It looks really cool. Here is the link:

Well, I looked at one randomly and it said to claim it you have to have found 25 caches with the word "Welcome" in the cache. Do I have time to go and check my past logs for that?

Maybe the pattern would have looked better if I had zoomed out more than a few steps, otherwise wankers. Make a pretty picture if you want but why make them all challenges or mysteries. Challenges are what I don't like about caching these days.

The ones I looked at didn't require anything extra, no ALR, and no 'welcome' requirements. Most appear to be traditionals.

You need to zoom out. None of the train are challenge caches.

The only reason they make them Puzzles or Multis are to get a different colour pixel for their designs ;)

There's been a few that are "puzzles" with the GZ coords in plain text. It's just someone too lazy to either find places for Trads that fit their pattern, or to make real puzzles or multis to get inaccessible bogus coords.
