We found 153 caches in one hour last weekend. We opened them all up and they were all empty. We are no longer welcome in K-mart.

The most you can do in the Top End is 17. And you probably would have driven at least 800 km by the time you have finished.

As long as you did not go down the cache log aisle and start signing the hundreds of log only caches, you should be ok.

Just wondering what those record setters behaviour around caches withmuggles in the area was, did they wait a couple of minutes for the muggles to move on, just turn around and move onto the next immediately or just dive right in and ignore them....

Our standard is that if there is anyone around we leave and try later.

I have been at caches before waiting for muggles and then watched other cachers go straight in and get them in full view , and lo & behold the cache is archived within a week

I wonder why?

We've done 10+ in a day a few times, while travelling into new areas for us (but with lots of driving in between) and I really wouldn't want to do many more than that. As it was, I started taking notes as we finished each cache, so I'd remember the features of it for the online log.

It seems a waste of good caches to blur them all together, but I guess that's because we've done almost all of the caches within a couple of hours' drive and well over half of the South Island cache tally. Unfound caches are a precious commodity, to be treasured!

If there's thousands of caches in your vicinity, many of them lame "car park micros", then clearing 'em off the radar could be a good thing!

Of course if they wanted a real challenge I could suggest one cache in 24 hours.

Yes it was a good laugh. Amazing how times change. There are people who think they are slacking off if they don't find 30 in a day! (not me...)

Thanks Squalid I was completely baffled whilst reading this one too and at this time of night wouldn't have thought to check the date

So what is the record for 'Most finds in a single day' in Australia? the world? now.

My record is 31 in a day (or afternoon perhaps it was?), but that was a power trail and I cycled between them. I also found over 20 caches one day in Wellington NZ, but I had to walk about 18kms to find and log them. So I can't imagine finding 246 caches in 24 hours. However, there were three people and that helps, plus I wonder if they ever split up to search separately for caches?
