Some global geocache statistics
Some global geocache statistics
On the 1st of March 2012 I went through all the country and state, territory, subdivision, etc. pages available on the advanced search page on geocaching.com and counted all the geocaches that had been published and available at the time (excluding future events) to produced some interesting statistics.
Countries with the most geocaches
Countries with the highest geocache densities

Re: Some global geocache statistics
Wow rubai, that's a lot of interesting data. Thanks for all the work you clearly put into this.
Living in Germany, I can tell you that quantity and density doesn't automatically equal quality.
But competition over good locations does bring out the best of some cachers. While there's an increasing number of short-lived lame new micros, the standard of the top caches has clearly risen over the years. Thanks to filters and favorite points we can go cherry-picking when we feel like it.
Cheers,
p-boro

Re: Some global geocache statistics
Very interesting. ACT and Germany about the same density!
Would be also interesting to see what the density is per head of population (not cacher population!). The only reason I ask this is that I see that Victoria and NSW have roughly the same number of caches but SA is not far behind with a much lower population.

ACT with nearly 700 caches/1000sq km and SA with 7, but SA is where people go for record runs. Imagine the numbers they'd rack up if the density in SA even had the cache density of Victoria!Yurt wrote:Very interesting. ACT and Germany about the same density!

We'll be putting out a few more more caches this weekend to help push the NT towards the highest

36% of the caches in NT are trig points.

Lets not let 'trivial' facts like that get in the way of a good storycrew 153 wrote:36% of the caches in NT are trig points.

Thanks very much, rubai. That's very interesting.
Did you include GCA caches in compiling your stats for Australia?
