Binary puzzle/s
Out of my 5 closest to home unfound caches, three involve binary decoding...but a bit more complicated!
In one puzzle I need to decode a message that is in 7 bit binary form, and after conferring with the cache owner, he said that he wrote a small program to do this. I think that is beyond the levels of my know-how, and if I can help it, I would prefer not to have to do the whole message by hand (I think I can see the process after watching a youtube video!) but it would be a very laborious process which I'd prefer to avoid if I can! I've searched and searched through google for an online converter but the 7 bit is proving tricky. I'm just wondering if anyone has found/used one? (I can only seem to find the converters for 8 bit binary or 16, 32 etc).
One of the other puzzles uses 9 bit binary for each ASCII character. I've had no luck finding a converter for that either.
My usual system when I hit the brick wall (which happens regularly) when I'm attempting to solve puzzles is to contact the cache owner - and almost without fail, they are always extremely helpful. The cache owner said he didn't mind me seeking help from wider afield, so I'm wondering if anyone has found a straightforward means to decode a 7bit binary or 9bit binary message. Has anyone found online converters for these?
Thanks,
Dippy

Try one of these.

Specifically this one.

9-bit binary? Never heard of it.

Re: Binary puzzle/s
Unless its signed binary couldn't you just add a zero to the front of the 7 bit number to make it 8 bit?

The toolbox is a handy little section that I hadn't discovered before! It didn't work for the line of code that I had. Would adding a zero before each 7bits work?

People can be very cunning.
Adding a bit before each set of 7 will not help.
Even though:
You have a PM that might send you on the right track.

I won't post the answer publicly. The cache owner said he didn't mind me seeking help from wider afield

Wow, wow, WOW
That toolbox does AMAZING things! I still don't quite have coordinates, ( ) BUT I'm one step closer...
Thanks C@W!!!

Aw gee, well that'd be kind of giving it away a bit really, which I told the cache owner I wouldn't. A clue, I live in Hobart.
Re: Binary puzzle/s
First time I've come across the toolbox! I will have to check it out. I've found external resources and tools that can help with these tricky puzzles but in general I still suck at the more convoluted ones... But muhaha I have some planned that will hopefully repay those

the binary nine was a tricky one if its the cache I am thinking of, theres also decimal points to be taken into account. I did this quite a lot before the numbers clicked

I am so excited that I finally worked them out! That's THREE of my closest FOUR unfound caches being binary puzzles! Solved! The fourth unfound in the mix being The Lost Cause...um Cache!
Thanks so much everyone for your help! It's fantastic!
