Caching injuries
Caching injuries
So been caching for about a month now, I was never really an accident prone person but since starting geocaching ive sustained more injuries in the last month than I had in the last year lol all all apart of the adventure though I suppose, so I hoped I was not a minority and there were plenty of other people to share war stories wiso since the first of jan, ive slipped on my ass, resulting in a huge bruise on my butt, a bruise on my wrist, my elbow, a huge graze down my leg, scratches up my arm, and a few grazes on the front of my leg. Lol so im a little scared to see what the rest of the year will bring.
Im hoping im not the only clumbsy one

You need the GCA locationless cache "Casualty Ward" http://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga1005.

You haven't had fun unless you come home with a bit of blood leaking somewhere

Re: Caching injuries
Tis true. It hasnt been a fun day geocaching unless you have a cut/bruise/scrape/open wound/sprain/strain that you never had before.
The things we do for small plastic containers, hey?
(Says the one who wore a pair of thongs and a skirt....and walked through a blackberry bush today...bright move, me)
I think my brightest geocaching injury would have been..
So, i was on crutches (for something caused not by geocaching?!?), and had just gotten off them. A sensible person would have stuck to simple driveby, or terrain 1 caches, until their ankle was feeling completely better.
It was almost a driveby, ok? There was just a barbed wire fence i had to jump...really, it was like 200m away from the road! Honest!
After DNF'ing the cache, almost getting attacked by the resident possum (reason for the DNF..), i had to jump back over the fence.
Long story short, i ended up back on crutches...

Re: Caching injuries
I can relate - i have a long scratch scar up my arm from an encounter with a broken branch, still recovering from Woodlands 100 blisters, not to mention the mental trauma of too many close encounters with large spider webs strategicly placed between you and the cache... I was pleased to find that Casualty Ward cache - nice to get an extra smilie to make up for it all

Oh yeah...that's the worst injury of them all. Mental trauma is worse than physical traumaquiet1_au wrote: not to mention the mental trauma of too many close encounters with large spider webs strategicly placed between you and the cache... )

Re: Caching injuries
Well...so far the list of injuries for me includes...
- torn medial knee ligament
- wooden spike through foot (which punctured through my shoe as well)
- Countless amount of blackberry thorns in hands, shins etc
- Sprained ankle
- Stick through back when I fell 2m off a rock onto a bush
- Split head open a couple of times (once on an MBO windmill when the blades suddenly turned and came down on my head)
- Multiple cuts and bruises (this almost goes without saying)
But...at the end of the day...I wouldn't change any of it! It's all part of the great adventure of geocaching!

Re: Caching injuries
My Casualty Ward Log was for a dislocated shoulder
I was very proud of Zhaomin who managed a spectacular bruise on her knee, turning the whole thing black, on a 4/4 cache here in Ireland last week. Got some photos that dont do it justice. She will log this week hehehe

Re: Caching injuries
Cracked my sternum slipping forward onto a pointy rock, throwing arms wide to catch myself and chest taking full impact!
Everything else has been rather minor next to that one.
When I think about the dark hiding spots I've shoved my hand into though...

Friday's injuries: Grazed left thigh and knee, grazed and bruised right knee, grazed palms ( superman dive) and an almost broken GPS lucky the garmin is bomb proof.

Re: Caching injuries
A bomb would have made the injuries more worthy, instead of not looking where I was going, with my nose glued to the Gps and tripping on a rock, on a flat track.SamCarter wrote:You encountered a bomb??tronador wrote:Friday's injuries: Grazed left thigh and knee, grazed and bruised right knee, grazed palms ( superman dive) and an almost broken GPS lucky the garmin is bomb proof.
Re: Caching injuries
I picked up four ticks on a cache run the other evening. I'm STILL itchy!

Just dont let your injuries slow you down
Caching in the Coorong with a broken leg (Spiral fracture with 3 breaks)
