I think 1st Jan sounds good but a lot of others aren't keen on an early start that day for some reason. I reckon it's a great time to go, often very quiet on the roads and also muggle-free :D

just remember that the beginning of a long weekend is the WORST possible day to drive up in the mountains - you will be stuck in slow moving traffic for hours, and maybe consider returning via Bells Line of Road

Jan 1st isn't the start of a long weekend - it's in the middle as it's Sunday. I would have thought most people would head off on Saturday 31st and back on Monday 2nd. So Sat ought to be not so bad. Don't you reckon?

If you mean the Sunday - yes hopefully it will be ok. It may also help that Roger has placed a quite a few of the caches on the back roads. Good luck with it anyway - hope you have fun :)

Good to remember.

Geocachers attempting the BMPT Challenge will by no means be spending all their time on the Great Western Highway.

There are even a few mini bush walks required.

Heard today that 'The BMPT Challenge' is definitely going to be undertaken on Sunday!

Bets are now being taken as to when the 60th BMPT cache in Penrith will fall.

rogerw3 suggests 3pm.

I think nearer to 6pm.

We hope to hear reports!

It's on like Kong!

Early start... we will also be rounding up Frogs to attend the Frog Fest in Sydney on the 3rd! So any Hoppers that you place over the next few days if they could be near BMPT caches that would be great.

Would be awesome to have 50+ :frog at the event.

GeGnomes with special dispensation may also apply for a Visa to hitch a lift :gnome

Keep us posted!

We especially want to know the exact time that the 60th BMPT is logged . . .

There's a bet on . . .

Good luck!

Re: Blue Mountains Power Trail (BMPT) -- Congratulations!

Post by pjmpjm » 01 January 12 1:11 pm

First reports trickling in just after 12 noon indicated that the energetic and early-rising BZT team had already reached BMPT-51 (the last one, in Lithgow) -- leaving only one unlogged BMPT that was shielded by a police rescue vehicle attending to an accident. Given the total of 60, and the time of the first find, I think that's one BMPT every 3-4 minutes!

So . . . Congratulations to these three intrepid GCAers!

Apparently there was one BMPT that caused them many headaches before it was finally located.

No doubt we'll hear more from BZT later today, as they attempt to set more records.

Who will be next to attempt the BMPT in one day? Who will be the first to achieve the task travelling in the 'wrong' (opposite) direction?

Watch this space!
