How bizarre. I assume they are used in preserving things?

I was instead wondering about hiding them in the boss's office and shutting the door, but I actually get on OK with my boss where I am now.

They keep bread fresh. Look for them in packets of wraps. O2 is the enemy of fresh bread. Useless for caching as H2O is our enemy. Silica gel keeps moisture a bay for a while, but eventually you have to refresh the silica gel by heating it to 60C for 2 hours. I do that in the lab for some experiments but not in my caches.

Thanks Freddo, I didn't know you could dry out used silica gel. I'll put some old packs on my roof on a hot summer's day - that should do the trick.
