New to Geocaching
Hi all,
Just recieved a new ertrek H as my early birthday present. Having problems working out how to enter co-ordinates into it. If some kind soul can guide me thru it I would appreicate it.
I look forward to seeking out all the caches in the Preston AU area!

Hold down the ok button and it creates a waypoint then go into waypoints and edit it to the co-ords you want.
Have you got a cable to connect to pc, then there's all sorts of auto ways of importing

Re: New to Geocaching
Most people don't manually enter co-ordinates. They do a Pocket Query from the geocaching.com. You have to be a Premium Member to do that. A GPX file will be emailed to you containing up to 500 waypoints. You then upload it to your GPS. Not sure if your GPS can read GPX files. If not, you'll have to convert it to something like .WPT format.

Thanks, I manually entered one and was able to find it ok. I realised I need to go and get an interface cable so that I can download the waypoints - so off the shops I will need to go!

Re: New to Geocaching
Also check Ebay for your cable
this one works fine for us and is heaps cheaper than Garmin official one
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI ... 0626958604
when you have it you can send co-ords directly from the cache page to your etrex.
Manual entering is fine but you do get a sore thumb!

Also make sure you get the one listed here with power, because there is another one that DOESN'T have power. Just saves your batteries when you have it connected to the PC.Taiko'sFamily wrote:Also check Ebay for your cable

Also, another great advantage of using GSAK with an Etrex is the smart naming feature. It make an intelligible name for the WP in the etrex using the 6 characters available to it. This is much better than truncated GC codes when you have 500 waypoints in there.

I've been looking on eBay and failing at finding this!
In all seriousness, manually entering in coordinates is not good fun. Yep, you get a sore thumb very easily, and there is the possibility that you could get a digit wrong (which obviously will lead you elsewhere, which is no fun!!)
