How to: Projected Coordinates
I have a Garmin Oregon550 that can do projections easily and I have done them many times to find caches. However my question is: how do the owners do them? I mean if I am standing at a point (point A), project to point B, how did the owner know what projection was needed to get to point B?
Do people use software of some sort? I am quite interested to know how to do this as I would like to try it out myself, making a cache using projections.
Thanks!

Re: How to: Projections
They mark the point B in the GPS then go to A and set the GPS to take them to B. Then they look on the "follow the arrow" screen and read the distance and bearing.
Or you can use google earth...

There are many online applications available - for example http://www.fizzymagic.net/Geocaching/FizzyCalc/

Your Oregon is capable of doing that even if your not at the place - I'll show you next time we meet
Re: How to: Projections
If you have an iphone, there are a few apps that will calculate them for you as well.

Re: How to: Projections
It may be a bit of a fine point, but I'd call this "projected coordinates" or "projected position" to avoid any confusion with "projection", which refers to the way a map represents the Earth on a flat surface.
Cheers.

Your caches are what made me think of this topic RiggerRigger64 wrote:I have done many ways Point A to B.

So what sort of software do you use? Free software would be better........

Re: How to: Projected Coordinates
I have a little app called 'map tools' (iphone) that can work this out when hiding.
When finding, I use the 'project waypoint' function on my garmin.
