This is the vote I've been referring to.

Once you've made your maximum number of votes, you can still leave comments.

Mine are on the theme of: 'You can still have the new challenges and enjoy them and maintain statistics about them -- but please count them completely separately from ordinary GC finds.'

Once again, I encourage GC users (and that would be more or less all of you, I suspect) to vote and have your say.

Just added my three votes. Challenges are different to caches and should not be added to them. Thank you to those who pointed out that the forum was there.

Let's hope that they wake up and re-institute virtuals as the should be!

I also put 3 votes to that and added a comment. Challenges dilute the value of geocaching.. IMHO they are just crap.

It's really great to see everyone voting!

Keep up the good work!

And of course there are many other GC Forum topics you can vote on. I've been looking at both the 'top' and 'hot' categories of voting, to see what GCers are concerned about.

Added my two bobs' worth and three votes now. You get your votes back once it's actioned or killed off I think.

How about this one while you're there?
The geocaching test before placing a cache.
New cacher must pass an online "Groundspeak" course to be approved to hide their first geocache.

This must come up with monotonous regularity as I've heard all the arguments for and against this sort of rule many times in the 2.5 years I've been around this pursuit. As has been said before some noobs have hidden some of the best and longest lasting caches.

How about a simple quiz?
Is this your first hide? YES

Then:
Is it something you'd actually be pleased to find?
Is it a place you'd like to visit if you didn't know about it?
Is you cache something other than a takeaway food container/black film canister/Eclipse tin (unpainted, no magnets)?

If you answered NO to any of the above you are not quite ready yet. Go and find a few more.

Stupid suggestion. Did they have to do it? Why do they want it done now? Superiority syndrome.

Here's the latest note from 'Jeremy' -- the admin at GC:

"We are working on splitting out cache finds and challenge completion counts. Both will be displayed on the logs unless you have not found a Challenge. In that case the statistics for Challenges won’t be shown. This should be done by the end of the week (August 26) (30517)"

Sounds like just what is needed . . .

Latest note from 'Jeremy' at GC:

"Cache finds and challenge completion counts are now split out. Both are displayed on the logs unless you have not found a Challenge or found a Geocache. In that case the statistics for Challenges/Geocaches won't be shown. (30517)"

Success!

awesome - now that they've disconnected it I'm going back to my normal avatar :D Doesn't change that the implementation for challenges is still very bad but now I don't care anymore.

everyone wins

And the cache counts are back too.
And the avatars work again.
It's almost back the way it was originally plus avatars.
Yay!!

I've completed 4 challenges & they show up on my profile under Geocaches found (All geocache finds) giving a total of 1208. So if we met today somewhere & a question was asked in respect of Groundspeak caches, I'd say I've found 1208 & not make a distinction. Perhaps a change is on the books to strip them out of geocache finds & give them their own sub heading. That'd be nice.

As it is I don't see any difference today compared to when they were introduced other than caches & challenges being listed under the sign in widget. Finds, hides & challenges are still listed as before.

Just checked the GC Forum for the release & what ever they planned has been done viz Separation of challenge completions from cache finds in logs on cache pages and in login widget. Hmm - my challenge comments when completed only appeared on the actual challenge, not in the logs under caches, not in the logs last 30 days & I couldn't & still can't select them from Geocaches found - what am I missing? :?

As far as I can see, the Geocaches Found page is the only one where the Challenges add into the Cache Total. Otherwise, Challenges are essentially totally separate, and as Tuena points out even finding them is a bit awkward. The only way I have found to do it is either through Your Profile/Changes for the ones you have done/created, or through a location search on the Challenges page.

Yay!!

Thank goodness! And I don't even mind the Avatars now that they are smaller. Makes it easier to find a particular cacher's logs.

But this whole exercise makes it pretty clear that -

The Programmers do not appear to be cachers, and

- they appear to have very little communication with cachers!

As I was discussing with pjmpjm they seem to have missed the fact that many geocachers (myself very much included) have a tendency towards obsessive-compulsiveness and vague statements regarding the date like "about a couple of days ago around tea time" just do not sit well! Couple that with the loss of counts or mixing them up with challenges and it's a recipe for disaster!
