Katie, I'm no fan of dogs myself but if you tell us which city you're in it may help narrow down some victims interviewees if you haven't had a satisfactory response yet. I'm in Brisbane and know of a few cachers with a geo-hound.

Re: Geocaching with Dogs
We have a medium sized dog, a Dalmatian, but there are relatively few caches where you can take an active dog these days, without having them on a lead, which makes it all a bit hard.
You'd probably need a very lethargic dog or a lap dog to have them with you a lot while you're caching.

I disagree with that. Our dog comes with us on every cache not in a National Park or not done in work hoursgmj3191 wrote: You'd probably need a very lethargic dog or a lap dog to have them with you a lot while you're caching.
Most cachers recognise him well before they recognise Chip and I!

Yes, sorry, I should have added it would be difficult in urban areas.Hoojar wrote:I disagree with that. These days, there seem to be fewer and fewer off leash areas.

Re: Geocaching with Dogs
This is a really fantastic cache for caching with dogs. A good one for humans as well.

Re: Geocaching with Dogs
We are currently travelling around Australia for one year with our dog. He goes caching with us almost all the time and he enjoys it very much, sometimes we have to leave him in the car whilst we hunt caches due to the hazard traffic or no dogs permitting, he is quiet happily wait in the car whist we hunt these caches. It does him good to explore more out in wide Australia.
Re: Geocaching with Dogs
My dogs have been to nearly every find I've done, mostly on the lead so they don't run off while I'm looking around for the cache but sometimes in a park they are off lead.
Re: Geocaching with Dogs
Luckily our dog is deaf, which goes the same for both of us, we don't need a lead, he follows us everywhere and never strays out but maybe to sniff a couple of trees nearby

We're still trying to train our little Scottie to sniff out tupperware. No good yet, but having fun trying!

Re: Geocaching with Dogs
We've been trying to teach our Jenna to do that, too, with no success at all. However, we recently acquired an adult dog who seems to be a natural! Loki will be getting some specialized training, very soon, and we hope he may lead us to caches - at least caches in the bush. He doesn't seem interested in nanos, but then, neither am I!

Our Hope is a natural but then again some dogs are a natural.
She has always loved getting out hunting for caches of any type.
