I have just added them to my GSAK and hunt them down like any cache/trig/munzee/gca cache.... which ever is closest to home first :D

I havent deployed any in ages but then I havent hidden a cache in a long time too! (Except for the cache race) I am still getting caps on mine every so often and am finding new ones popping up every week.

How do you add to gsak?

Generate a GPX file here!... http://munzee.dfx.at/

It is just a big filter, I set mine to all of NSW and download it once a week. It is pretty basic, I filter out my owned and my finds... then after each update, I delete the ones I have found off GSAK so they dont add to my stats (this is easily down as the "Last GPX date" will be older... this also lets you find dead ones and delete them)

I think you can customise the icons but on mine:
Normal Munzees import as "Mega Event"
Virtual Munzees import as "CITO Event"
All other Munzees import as "Other" (Like Moveables.... lucky these are rare ;)

You get the co-ords, name, owner, and the text hint/description. Works awesome.

This is a 3rd Party tool which is why you wouldnt have seen it on the App. \:D/

Thanks I'll give it a go cause I hate navigating with the app.

FYI for all the Munzee non-forum browsers, there is a new version of the app, built from the ground up due out sometime in the next few months :D

One warning I got from Chrispix is it may no longer support Android 2.1 and below :'(

That is what I have found as well, but it was posted early on that...
If you hit "Find this Munzee", rather than "Navigate to", you do get a compas of sorts and a distance to the coordinates. That combined with zooming in on the google map/satellite view is usualy enough to get you close enough to spot the obvious hides
so will give that a try.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Like others, I generate a GPX file of the munzees I want, Place that GPX file into a GSAK database, then
merge Munzees with my Geocache database.
I use different icons to differentiate between Munzees and Caches,
Load the lot into my Garmin Dakota 20 and use that to locate Munzees,
I only use my phone to capture the Munzee - usually off line, to save data costs.

I enjoy Munzees for their ease of deployment, speed of capture,
It takes but a moment to capture, No hanging around looking suspicious.

No wet soggy logbooks to sign, or caches full of rubbish, no badly degraded vegetation areas from
cachers tearing everything up to find the cache. The great majority of munzees are on man made objects and usually have a good hint.

For us Munzees lack the story behind the placement, which Caches provide - ie history, a story, a reason
to be placed where they are.

The app has had a few issues of late - server capacity, buggy map, but I regard this as a
"young" application.

Version 2 will hopefully be a more mature and stable app
When it is, I will become a premium member

Munzees and Caches - a great combination

I experienced the exact opposite - a great many wouldn't capture leading to frustration before I cast Munzee by the wayside. My last attempt sums up my experience: found but wouldn't cap. Happens often. sundial works. my last munzee as too much effort for to little gain.

Have Munzee changed the capture software to make it more reliable?

If they have I'd check to see if any nearby as I travelled around.

There has been some updates to the iPhone and the Android app. That has seemed to make it more reliable to cap munzees. Though in some part it is reliant on the quality of the camera phone, whether the munzee is curved and general lighting conditions (having a shadow cast across one part of the munzee means the camera cannot get the exposure at the right level).

My more recent experience on a high end Android phone has shown that sometimes letting the camera focus on the munzee for up to 15 seconds and then slowly moving the camera away from the munzee helps. So does rotating the phone (though not sure why that works).

Though around 75% scan instantly there are a stubborn few that are hard to scan. Mostly due to being placed on a curved surface such as a pole.

Of the 220+ I have captured to date, 99% take approx 3 secs to capture,
Only 1 has proved really akward, It was placed in a dark area and the light feature of the Munzee app was insufficient.
I used a headtorch to provide sufficient illumination.
Am running Android 4 with a 8 megapixel camera.
Unlike fluffyfish, I start out 30cms away from Munzee, then slowly move in, until I feel it capture, using the haptic feedback feature.

My wife has captured a few and she says there is a learning curve as to the most efficient capture technique.

Good luck

Kevin

I'll try the one at the sundial again & use a torch for added illumination plus the other ideas. Thanks.

I don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere or on the Munzee forum or what, but what's the deal with the massive saturation of Munzees in some small (often rather pointless) pockets? Ringwood in Melbourne in particular has these clusters that are massively overpopulated with munzees, which seem to keep growing in saturation. Was this some intentional plan?? At first it seemed amusing but I must admit it gets pretty tedious pretty quickly, especially when you're overlapping about 8 virtual munzees at any one time and your phone can't tell whether your hunting physical munzee a or b because they're all so close together.

Is this simply the munzee version of a power trail or is there something I'm missing here?

The latest evolution in the munzee game is to super-saturate areas with munzees (with the rules of the game). That way you can gain the most amount of points in the shortest possible time. As you gain points when someone captures your munzee, there is a tendency once a spot starts getting deployed into, others rush in to add munzees in that area as well, knowing if it becomes a "hot spot". You'll get more points in a hotspot (due to the number of visitors) than a single munzee in an out of the way spot.

Another evolution that drives this behaviour is the availability of pre-printed adhesive munzee stickers. This removes the preparation factor and people can buy hundreds of munzees relatively cheaply.

As it evolves, it is more further away from geocaching than say a year ago. It is very points based (double point weekends, etc) rather than experience based. That means it drives off some players but attracts an "non geocaching background" player.

BTW munzees have to be at least 10m from another munzee (even virtuals) and you cannot place your own munzees closer than 50 m.

WIth my brief foray into Munzees (it's been a while since I captured one or even bothered to check if there were any nearby) I still don't get the idea of "points". They don't achieve anything, surely number of finds is more relevant but it's not something the app shows me. I can understand maybe a bonus for FTF, but the double point weekends or golden ones (whatever they are called) just doesn't make sense to me.

Every so often I consider just deleting the app and forgetting about it.
