Re: The longest GCA power trail in Australia (idea)
Lyrics to "I've cached everywhere" with apologies to lyricist Geoff Mack and singer Lucky Starr (1962).
Well, I was humpin' my bluey on the dusty Oodnadatta road,
When along came a semi with a high and canvas-covered load.
(Spoken) "If you're goin' to Oodnadatta, mate, um, with me you can ride."
So I climbed in the cabin and I settled down inside.
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand, I said
"Listen, mate, I've travelled ev'ry road in this here land."
Chorus:
Cos "I've cached everywhere, man,
I've cached everywhere, man.
'Cross the deserts bare, man;
I've breathed the mountain air, man.
Of travel I've had my share, man.
I've cached ev'rywhere.

Awesome!
Now all we need is someone to volunteer to sing it. (Not me. )

If you're in Melbourne, can play the guitar (well enough) and sing (well enough) I think we can arrange to breach copyright laws

Re: The longest GCA power trail in Australia (idea)
After leaving Darwin I contemplated placing a few IBEM caches on my way, and thankfully I thought better of it.
Yesterday I found more evidence of why we'd be wasting our time. I hunted down GA1616 Cosmos Bilby by DelicaDriver which hadn't been found since 15 November 2010, then I hunted down GCZYV9 Drought-Buster by aandm which had 21 hunters in the same period.
While I'm happy to again claim a find of GA2689 Unloved Caches - 6 Months Unfound by Cached, I don't think I want to provide any more opportunities for the same.
Even Bundyrumandcoke, who owns a Locationless cache and has logged 9 different Locationless caches, didn't log this very easy drive by cache IN HIS OWN STATE.

Re: The longest GCA power trail in Australia (idea)
The more GCA caches that are placed, the greater the likelihood of people becoming interested enough to find them. Chicken and egg. No caches, no interest. No interest, no caches.
Just wait until the other huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge series in NT gets going. You will have more GCA caches to find than you can poke a stick at.

Re: The longest GCA power trail in Australia (idea)
After reading that first line I'm rethinking my involvement now, I'm pretty open minded, but "humpin' my bluey"?!

Re: The longest GCA power trail in Australia (idea)
I am a huge fan of this idea, and I am happy to help hookline with the Tasmanian caches (I will speak to hookline at the upcoming event about it)
I do have a problem with one line only
"I'm a killer"
I know it's probably original, but surely we can come up with another rhyme that is more um um (I hate using these words) "politically correct".
Otherwise lets go with it, Caughtatwork is right, without GCA caches people will not combine GCA and GC hunting. To many people think GCA caches are less quality because they don't have an iphone app like ground speak. Trying to convince these people that there are other ways (Geosphere for instance) can be difficult, but if we can say there is a great series on the GCA site such as this it could bring people around to the site.

But even better, we have an Android app. How cooler is that?budgietas wrote: To many people think GCA caches are less quality because they don't have an iphone app like ground speak. Re: The longest GCA power trail in Australia (idea)
OK, I can see that. Are we talking physical caches, virtual caches, or a mixture of the two?caughtatwork wrote:The more GCA caches that are placed, the greater the likelihood of people becoming interested enough to find them. Chicken and egg. No caches, no interest. No interest, no caches.

I'm happy to set virtuals along the rest of the Matilda Way, but as I only do the Matilda Way about every seven years and "Community Maintenance" seems to be limited to LIz & Bruce, myself, and a couple of other cachers, I'm not prepared to set physical caches which in a year or two will be in need of maintenance and fail to attract cachers.
A photo of you and/or your gpsr/iPhone/Android with the Cunnamulla Fella statue in frame to claim IBEM Cunamulla - how does that sound?

They will be physical caches (I would expect).

Re: The longest GCA power trail in Australia (idea)
To each their own, but I tend to find Community Maintenance happens a lot more with remote caches. I've fixed a few up in the past when it has seemed likely that the owner is not a local.WanderingAus wrote:I'm happy to set virtuals along the rest of the Matilda Way, but as I only do the Matilda Way about every seven years and "Community Maintenance" seems to be limited to LIz & Bruce, myself, and a couple of other cachers, I'm not prepared to set physical caches which in a year or two will be in need of maintenance and fail to attract cachers.
If the cache is an ammo can then maintenance is a lot less likely to be needed (apart from muggling anyway) especially if the hide is out of the weather or floods.
Re: The longest GCA power trail in Australia (idea)
I'd be sorry for the power trail to have virtuals, this project needs a trail of physical caches I reckon.
As for changing the original words - I think we should stick with what was written by Geoff Mack and sung by Lucky Star

I'll put my hand up for Lithgow, as my cacher friends would expect!
