Sad News : Hunter-Finder
Sad News : Hunter-Finder
Those of us who knew Tim (Hunter-Finder) from Sydney will be sad to hear that he passed away on Monday night. He had been fighting a painful battle with mesothelioma and was the keenest of geocachers right up til he was hospitalised a few weeks ago.
I know Tim found geocaching a very good distraction from his problems in the last year or so and we spent a few nights together playing with many and various gnomes for the game last summer and had a lot of fun.
It will be sad to not have him around

Yes, thanks for posting this. He was a great guy and you would never have known he was in bad health by his attitude. That's why it was such a shock to me.
Again condolences to his family.

A very nice guy, a very cheerful guy, an enthusiastic and friendly geocacher.
This is how I'll remember Tim.

As others have said, he was always friendly, positive, outgoing and just a great person to be around. I see he was still caching until mid April. He will be sadly missed at future events and on the cache trail.

I had not even realised he was ill The news literally cut me off mid-sentence here in London. Tim and I last chatted as he was being very apologetic for having me bashing through the bush trying to FTF "Welcome Gnome" at 3am in the morning who had been removed the night before... not expecting someone would be nutter enough to attempt a late night gnome expedition! He will be missed on the caching trails

Very sad, we only met him the once I think but he seemed like a really friendly nice guy.
Re: Sad News : Hunter-Finder
How nice to read all your posts. Gaztek here. Tim aka Hunter-Finder was our geocaching mentor. Tim and Mr Gaztek work together and Tim introduced Mr G to geocaching. It was the now-archived Books Galore set by La Perouse in North Sydney. It was over a year later in 2009 that we finally got started. Tim's enthusiasm and persistence and joy and willingness to share encouraged us and gave us a great foundation. We will miss him.
Like Tim we adopted a La Perouse cache when Lyon hung up his GPS device. We will soon set a new cache in Tim's honour not far from Books Galore.
Tim’s funeral is to be held next Tuesday May 31at 2.00pm at the Magnolia Chapel – Macquarie Park Cemetery
Corner Delhi & Plassey Roads.
I will bring your posts to his wife, Annette, and daughter, Kelly.
Yours in geocaching,
Gaztek (Anne and Garry)

Re: Sad News : Hunter-Finder
Such sad news. I only met Hunter-Finder once at the first GCA-NSW event I attended. I do recall that there was some hint he was ill. I know that he is up there hiding some caches ready for the rest of us. Please add my condolences to his family.

Re: Sad News : Hunter-Finder
I know there's never an appropriate time to discuss this but H-F's caches will need adopting or otherwise. I only say this because I found one of his today and accidentally damaged it so I took it home for repairs.
As GC won't let caches be adopted without permission of the CO I guess it's up to the community to maintain these.
What do people think? It's simple enough to put any 'adopted' caches on your watchlist so you can maintain them if a NM log gets posted.
Again I don't mean to be insensitive.

I would suggest 'we' (the local caching community) take the approach you took. That is, keep an eye out for H-F caches that are nearby and repair them if needed.
Having said that, does anyone know his family? Would it be best to ask them? I suspect blossom was a good geocaching friend.

Re: Sad News : Hunter-Finder
I have met his wife and she was not a cacher, it was a hobby Tim enjoyed on his own I think. Gaztek might have some ideas
