Book exchange cache?

Post by the Monkey King » 17 January 11 8:36 am

Has anyone ever started a "Book exchange cache"?

I ask because I am a complete newbie to all of this and thought it might be an interesting type of cache.

The idea is you put a novel in the cache and anyone that finds it can take the book provided they leave a book.

The cache contains the standard log book for people to sign, and the inside cover of the book also becomes a log book to show the book's movements as it goes from cache to cache.

Once you have finished reading the book, it is released in to the world via a different cache.

Music CDs could be included as well.

Yes - there are plenty of bookcrossing caches out there.

You might want to check http://www.bookcrossing.com/ as well

Please consider the container carefully.
Most of the time it will be exposed to the weather and water WILL get into the cache container.
Nothing worse than a pile of smelly, mouldy paper :stabby

You may need multiple containers inside each other to secure the contents.

Good advice thank you - I will check out different sized containers to make sure I can do a "Russian Nesting Doll" kind of a deal.

I have down one in Lynbrook - which is a multi dedicated to readers and writers. Once you find the cache you can exchange books. I left a Danielle Steele and took a Kathy Reichs book.

oooh what a good idea...I am a huge book worm and go through a book within a couple of days so am starting to get a litte crowded out with old books and always looking for something new to read...perhaps I shall start one of these of my own.

TeaCassie: It would be interesting to see how far the books could travel, or even one from the one I plan to set up makes it to your place and vice versa.

I just need to find enough different size boxes to make sure the books wont get wet :P

You could stamp or stick a little card inside the cover too like the library does but for your cache so they know where the book started...maybe even each book could have its own log page or library card (remember those) that people can sign with their geocaching name and it travels with the book.

:D Yep, that was what I was thinking too - that way you can see how far the book has traveled
