Any geologists out there?

Can you tell me what this rock is? I found it on the beach at Mystery Bay and it appears to have little 1-2mm long things embedded or fossilised in it.

I'm no geologist but just wondering... is it hard or soft/crumbly? is it heavy or light? Dull or shiny?
These attributes may help identify it.

Can you give me a cross-section look? ie, break it so I can see inside. Can you also take a macro shot with your camera of the cross section shot.

Sedimentary in origin, but unsure what's in it.

I think it's just a sedimentary rock with lots of fossils. They look like molluscs and there are lots of little ones like this. I googled but I couldn't find anything similar.

Any further suggestions?
