Any geologists out there?
Can you tell me what this rock is? I found it on the beach at Mystery Bay and it appears to have little 1-2mm long things embedded or fossilised in it.

I'm no geologist but just wondering... is it hard or soft/crumbly? is it heavy or light? Dull or shiny?

Ignore all the clowns above .
Can you give me a cross-section look? ie, break it so I can see inside. Can you also take a macro shot with your camera of the cross section shot.
Sedimentary in origin, but unsure what's in it.

I'd love to know what it is but it's too pretty to break Please find a better way to identify itmtbikeroz wrote:Ignore all the clowns above .

Yeah I'm not to keen to break it. I'll bring it to the High tea for gnomes event.mtbikeroz wrote:Ignore all the clowns above .

Re: Any geologists out there?
I have copied one of the photos and will send it to a friend who is a science teacher and see what they say.
Re: Any geologists out there?
My science teacher friend says
"As suggestive as the appearance of the rock is I think it's just a sedimentary rock with lots of fossils. They look like molluscs and there are lots of little ones like this. I googled but I couldn't find anything similar.
Nice find, though!"
Any further suggestions?
