ipod geocach apps question
a friend of mine said he had gotten an app for his ipod touch that would allow him to geocach, is he pulling my leg or is it true as i am looking to get an ipod touch and am still in need of gps unit. Would this app save me from buying an unit just yet?

Re: ipod geocach apps question
There's probably apps that'll let you look up the details of caches, but there's no GPS receiver in the Touch, so you won't be able to actually find caches with it.
(It has a rough location feature using known wi-fi spots, but that'd hardly be accurate enough to get you to the right park, let alone the right hidey-hole for a cache!)

Re: ipod geocach apps question
i think he is referring to DUAL or GPS DUAL (I think that is correct) which attaches to teh back of teh ipod touch and provide GPS capabilities. Team Conquest uses this and has had no problems

but for that price, you may as well by an oregon.

Re: ipod geocach apps question
Do check out the possibility of going for an iPhone or other smartphone, so that you get built-in GPS (and, of course, a phone and online data connectivity!)
The price might be quite similar to buying a Touch plus an add-on GPSr...
(e.g. I've seen Galaxy S phones with 16GB cards around for about $550)

Re: ipod geocach apps question
Hi all,
I have a Dual XGPS300, which is a gps cradle that fits onto an ipod touch, it is just as accurate as a garmin etrex H, and probably more accurate than an iphone. It costs ~ $245 new and enables you to store an unlimited number of geocaches (means I don't have to use GSAK) with a program such as geosphere (another thing I can highly recommend). For more info go here: http://www.gpscradle.dualav.com/ to can purchase it from here: http://www.expansys.com.au/dual-portabl ... ch-202902/

Re: ipod geocach apps question
I know some cachers who use a jail broken ipod touch and a program that lets you connect to a bluetooth GPS. A cheap alternative.
