i just wished i got the same checkout chick at bunnings both times..that would of been funny/awkward/humerous i guess.


I finally foamed my gnomes! (and made a funky looking foam hand..)
and i lost an eclipse container in all the foam. whoops. for those who get my scout gnome, it now has two containers stuck in it. :S

So give us all the hints and "do"s and especially the "don't"s from the foaming. How long did it take to set? Did you do it in layers or all in one go? ANd did you spray it with water first to help it set? Also, did you try to clean the nozzle for future use of the leftovers? And how did you manage to NOT lose one of the eclipse tins in all the foam? Tie it down or what?

I haven't done it, but I always assumed that the foam would have the sort of consistency that you could carve with a sharp knife, the shape of whatever container you wanted to insert....

Can anyone confirm or deny?

Can confirm BUT, unlike styrofoam which cuts neatly with a sharp blade, the inside of expandofoam is very "crumbly" one you get past the shiny shell. i.e. It's more like foam with bubbles rather than just plan foam.

Imagine an Violet Crumble. Firm, but full of airholes and therefore "crumbly".

To help prevent accidental breakage. I imaging it wouldn't protect the outside surface against a hard knock or a drop, but it would make it easier to glue back together in the event of a breakage too.

In the case of larger gnomes, I think it would also help prevent the inner cache getting lost inside, and needing aggressive treatment for removal.

I foamed by gnome, as they say, to make a holder for the film canister, lest it drop inside and never be get gotten out again.

Well, I foamed my gnomes too.
I half filled the gnome with foam and set aside to dry (standing on its head).
By the next day the foam had spilled UP AND OUT of the hole in the bottom and made a BIIIIIG balloon of foam.
It expands A LOT!

Quick hint.
If you 1/3 fill the container then tape up the hole the foam will expand to fill the void and not run over.
Putting too much foam filler in the gnome will not cause it to detonate.

I recon that i might use Concreate or plasta in mine.
Like i asked does it have to be a Bona-fide .
if not i know were there is a Turtle Type .
The only thing is there might be hell to pay if the GLW finds out it is missing.

As long as it's a garden gnomish statue of some kind you'll be OK.
I wanted to avoid people placing a sistema and calling it a gnome.
If you think a turtle would be fun to find, or a rabbit, or a samuari, then so be it.

Has anyone else ever tried to crochet a hat to fit around bunny ears?

I am completerly flummoxed here - I wish I had thought of this BEFORE I attached the ears to the bunny!

I thought of that - but I have two long ears (on the bunny, that is!), and one is bent over in a rakish manner. I am currently thinking of buttons to stick the two halves of the hat together - I'm that desperate!
