Re: The Moving Cache Race for 2010/2011
Thanks Caught at Work for a fantastic job organising the race! I had so much fun hunting for and reloacating gnomes and I can't wait to participate in another one of these events.
I typed my last log tonight at around 11.45 and finished up with 7 gnomes in an end of race party at Tyabb! I didn't have time to take photos before i hid them all tonight but if they are still there after work tomorrow i will go and get photos!
My vote for the funniest and best gnome was the grey no-mads car and gnomes, although it was probably the most difficult to hide it was soooo big! But the idea was novel and it actually had a fully stocked swap cache inside!
Thanks to all involved, whether you made or moved gnomes for such a fun 2 months!

Arrgh, i forgot to move a gnome last night!
Hmm...he originated in the gold coast, and wants to end up back there. Bugger.

Now that the Great Gnome Race is over whatever will we do?
A big thank you to C@W and all participants in this amazing game, it can safely be said to have been very successful and a whole lot of fun.
The dust is settling down and it is time to take stock:
I was able to find 28 different and move them 37 times.
These travelled 2341.05 km an average of 63.27km per move.
I feel rather satisfied with this as all of that was done by train and on foot and the occasional bus!
Can't wait for next year and see what madness will be unleashed.
Again congratulation to all who took part and the administrators.

Of the 12 volunteers in the 666th Gnome Gnarmy, the attrition rate was very high, 2 confirmed dead and 3 still listed as MIA presumed dead.5 out of 12 gave their lives to make this a more enjoyable time for us all!
otherwise these 12 almost made it around the earth, just a bit short with 38 292.54km in 166 moves.

Congratulations to all the winners and everyone who took part.
As someone new to caching I must admit I was a bit hesitant about moving a gnome..what if I didn't do the co-ords right and he got lost? But I have totally enjoyed this and can't wait for the next event!

Re: The Moving Cache Race for 2010/2011
Well I've finally surfaced this morning again after a marathon last day of gnoming! I ended up with 10 gnomes to entertain and I can tell you it took a lot of time and effort! Luckily half of them were quite small and this lot didn't include Heave Ho so I was able to carry them around in my red shoppping bag ok
As it happened, one of the gnomes was in the running for the "most moves" so we devised a travel intinery for him and it all went according to plan - congratulations to mr_roo and The Grey Old GeGnome for winning this category
He started the day very early, being dropped around midnight out at Dural by Alfyboy. Then a 6am run in to the city where I met him and had to entertain him and his 9 mates for the day. A drop off to Macquarie University on the way home from my work, then Hunter-Finder took him out to Beecroft for a bushwalk to meet another few gnomes. Strike-a-light picked him up on the way home from his work and I gave him a ginger beer before heading back to the gnome gathering at North Ryde where I left him for the night! All moves and logs completed by about 11pm and it turned out to be enough to win
C@W, I really appreciate the effort you put in to create the games we play, thanks so much
And also a huge thanks for the people I got to know better during this year's game, thanks for all the fun.

Re: The Moving Cache Race for 2010/2011
Due to harvest I only managed to find and move 2 Still these 2 were some of the best caches I did in January
What happens to the gnomes now?
Maybe they all need to be involved in another game until next summer?
Maybe each gnome gets assign 3 random locations around Australia and whichever gnome visits all of them first wins
Or each gnome gets assigned a random cacher (or cachers) and whichever gnome makes it to that cacher first wins
Any thoughts???

Re: The Moving Cache Race for 2010/2011
I think the fun of the game is the novelty and if we continually play, our enthusiasm wanes.
I know I'll be looking forward to a break from the constant monitoring of what's where and when and I can spend more effort on finding standard caches that might require more planning - like puzzles and long walks or bike rides etc becasue I love that too. The stats show that I found 75 GCA cache in January and they were pretty well all gnomes! I was only beaten by pjmpjm who found 112 in the month!
So if we have a break, when the next game turns up, I'll be right back into it with enthusiasm again

Re: The Moving Cache Race for 2010/2011
Like other participants I certainly enjoyed the race. Congratulations to J_&_J for the very original name & to the administrators for their organisation. If I had my time over again I'd not fill my Gnome with plaster of paris - he must have weighed several kilos. I mainly looked for Gnomes in the local area but did venture into the A.C.T. for a day to find the princely sum of 2! Competing with the locals was fruitless. Thanks to Black Bunny & Co for grabbing Gnomes from Goulburn. I amazed that you even travelled to Wrights Beach to grab those 4 - an addiction that will be hard to overcome. Thanks also to Fluffyfish for insider information. My favourite gnome was gd__'s entry Grey Gnome-ads - thinking outside the square.
Finally thanks to all who moved & looked after my Gnome. He's waiting for his scotch fingers but I haven't the heart to tell him he's not real.

Re: The Moving Cache Race for 2010/2011
I cant access the cachinggames website from work, can someone post a list of winners here for all to see?
It was a lot of fun, having a theme for the race certainly brought out the creativity in people!
