You know I had that exact reaction to your suggestion about the gnome representing the caching identity....

Hmmm, these are the most PC lady Gnomes I found (not that I looked too hard) but I must say, why are the young gnomettes so scantily clad and the grey gnomad gnomettes so....covered? :gnomette :gnomette

:gnomette Just bought my gnome, perfectly fits the container. Now you'll just have to wait and see. AND at a bargain price of $4.95. BUT I did have to explain to the teenage sales assistant what a gnome was, when I mentioned elf, her face lit up and voila there stood the perfect gnome. :gnomette

PS Can't wait to see Sam Walkers cheeky gnomes!!! After all i would expect nothing less then a good laugh after mobility Stealth. :D

Too much pressure. Image
Too much reputation based upon one cache. Image
But if I think of something truly atrocious I will bring it to Sydney and start it from a park near you.

OK.. I have the gnome :gnome (which was originally going to be a GC Traditional) but I have a question & don't want to have to troll through 23 pages of posts to see if it has been answered yet...

If the gnome is about the size of a regular cache, but the actual cache container inside the gnome is only a (large) micro, what size should be included in the listing? I have faced this dilemma before & have always called caches a micro if there are no room for swaps - but what does the general caching population think??

BTW - I have been checking out the caching games site & some cachers have a LOT of gnomes registered!

In my opinion, if the container is a micro then list it as a micro.

Agree. My containers inside the gnome are film canisters, so they'll be listed as micro.

Hmmm... not sure if I agree.

What's the purpose of listing a "size" on GCA. I assume it's to help the finder when they are searching for a cache? Am I looking for a nano the size of my fingernail, or a regular the size of a shoebox?

I really need to know what I am looking for, not how big the hollow is inside the object.

I'll be hiding three sizes of gnome next month, ranging from a true nano (he's so cute, only a few mm tall!), up to a regular-sized garden gnome with a film canister stuck up its hole. I had intended to list their size as the size of the gnome, seeing that's what people will be searching for. The film canister is simply *part* of the cache, hence not really important information for the finder.

With normal caches (non-moveable), the container size may be more critical, as people need to know whether there's sufficient room for swaps, pens, etc. However, with a moveable, swaps are rarely an issue. And seeing that you take the cache with you, even a pen in the cache isn't really that important.

I'd like to hear others' views on this?

If I hide a hollowed out log (which I have done and will do again), is the log the cache or is the container inside the log the cache?
I can honestly see both sides and you are free to do as you see fit, but I would always list the actual container as the cache size, not necessarily the device used to hide the container.

Yep, I see your point there, but in that case I am looking for a container, not a log.

With the GeGnome Project, I'm looking for gnomes, not film canisters. :)

I agree. I will be listing mine as per the size of the gnome.

Actually with one of mine the log container is bigger than my :gnome

here's a piont to consider put the size of the :gnome :gnomette in & the size of the container I.e. Gnome "Regular" Container ""Small" I.e. 35mm film canister.

As i think that is the way im thinking of going.

Just my 2cents worth (less tax & GST)
