Most Frequently Found Cache

Post by gmj3191 » 15 June 10 1:12 pm

When I find an in interesting cache I put it on my watch list, as I guess most cachers do.
Last month we were in Rome, and I found a cache at The Spanish Steps, which goes by that name.

It is currently being found on average 2.17 times per day.
Are there any contenders to beat that?

We also need an Australian champion.
To start it off, Southbank gets found on average 0.368 times per day.

Ahhh, but over what period of time? That cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... 171b0a0b5d has only been there for 6 or so months.
Not a contender for longevity.

A new cache will have a significantly higher find rate for the first two or three months, then dies off to a trickle and it's only new cachers that then start to find it.

A cache that has been there > 12 months is a contender.
A cache that has been there 1 or 2 months will skew the results.

To keep it simple let's say caches placed in 2009 or earlier are eligible.

Foreign Currency in the ACT is a contender, with a ratio of 0.409 finds per day since Jan 2007.

surely there is a GSAK macro that I can run through my database to push out a contender and some stats...

I guess the Spanish Steps cache is benefiting from all the tourist visits as shown on it's page, as it is one of the "must visit" places in Rome.

As for Australia's top two - well obviously the first one benefitted from the massive numbers of visitors during the Oz Mega. The Melbourne one in at number 2 is also relatively new.

As suggested newer caches have a higher find ratio, with the top one at over a year old down at 0.442 finds/day.

And that's in Christchurch NZ! As is GC1M4AR... in fact the first Aussie Cache on that list of over a year is GC1JGKE - Dynamite in Wagga @ 0.3907 finds per day! And it would have been helped by the Mega. Other then that one there isnt a single Aussie cache older then a year on there! (Unless I missed it?!)

Hmmm, the Wagga one has 147 finds in April. Next best month was 12. Results definitely skewed \:D/
