Re: Sinkholes
That hole was so perfect it looked like it had been drilled out. Hey,those crystal caves were incredible!

Re: Sinkholes
If you Google Guatamala sinkhole you'll find images of a previous event in 2007. Here's a photo:
I can't find anywhere that says the current one is faked.

Re: Sinkholes
Yea, I saw that one, plus a few others. It was just the initial photo of the recent one I first saw which made me question, because it looked so perfect, especially in comparison with other sinkholes. I realise they are all cylindrical, and the way they are formed etc, but that one photo just looked off for some reason. Maybe it was just the angle and distance it was photographed.

The Large Hadron Collider is a particle accelerator 27km in circumference buried underground in Switzerland (and France!)
Created to smash atoms together at really really fast speeds to break bits off to study. One of the feared outcomes of doing this was the creation of a black hole that would swallow the earth.
Re: Sinkholes
OMG! That was interesting to say the least! Love the other sites too. Would love to have a go at the indoor skydiving.

Re: Sinkholes
Apparently it's not a sinkhole, it's a "piping feature". And the whole city is sitting over a pumice deposit that could sink again anywhere. I'm just glad I don't live there...

Hell yeah! And not only because it is a hotbed of violent crime.winterdragon wrote:Apparently it's not a sinkhole, it's a "piping feature". And the whole city is sitting over a pumice deposit that could sink again anywhere. I'm just glad I don't live there...
The capital city was Quetzaltenango until it was destroyed by an earthquake when the capital moved to Antigua, which was also destroyed by an earthquake. Only a matter of time for the current one!
