Going to the snowies any time soon?

Post by neoaddict » 24 December 09 3:27 pm

We recently visited from the USA and had a fantastic time. One thing we forgot to do while there was grab a couple of snow gum seed cones. Anyone in the area planning on visiting Charlotte pass anytime soon and would be willing to mail us some?

Not going there personally, but to be honest would your customs department let them in? I know if you tried to bring similar into Australia they would almost certainly be confiscated (or banned in the mail). Foreign plant material is generally a no-no.

Glad you enjoyed the trip in any case.

Mailed/posted seeds would likely not make it through USA customs without a permit - http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacat ... tsandSeeds and http://www.aphis.usda.gov/plant_health/ ... ucts.shtml

Having seen how they dealt with my friends plants when she moved form Victoria BC to Seattle WA, I'd not count on them making it through border inspection once declared.
