What's your Radius?

Post by murf » 16 November 09 6:12 pm

After a drive yesterday to find 3 caches and clean out my "50km radius from home" circle... It got me wondering, what sort of radius to other cachers keep clear around their home coordinates?

According to GSAK, my next nearest "Unfound + Not archived + Not Temp Unavailable + Not Benchmark" (I'm excluding trigpoints for now) cache is 58.68kms away. And given that it is most likely missing, the next one after that is 87.18kms away. Now I do realise that city dwellers have a much harder time "swimming against the tide", because I'm lucky to see a new cache out my way every couple of months... But still, I'm curious...

What's your Radius? :)

I am up to about 180k at the moment in an arc from Se to SW from by home location. When I have conquered this arc I will switch to a new arc of N to ESE. I have to travel this far as I have found all the ones close to and about 1hour driving from my home location.

I think I had about 500 within 50km when I started caching. Up to 2500 or so now I think....

Our closest unfound is 1.63km away. Its also a straightforward traditional. We haven't bothered getting it yet because it (and a few others within a few kilometres) are nothing more than a tin with a scrap of paper in them, no stash note, no pencil, no swaps, with coordinates likely to be off.

Ignoring that, we have:
15 unfounds within 5km
124 unfounds within 10km
454 unfounds within 20km
798 unfounds within 50km
1235 unfounds within 100km

We couldn't imaging having no caches within 50km of home

I have 40 unfound within 50km. At this stage of my caching career, I am a little bit particular. Not saying that some of those within the 50KM zone are not worthy, some look very good, I am just looking further for something special. Once I get over about 700 finds, I will probably go for anything to get to the magic 1k

Within 10 km radius (3 unfound).
Within 20 km radius (19 unfound).
Within 30 km radius (51 unfound).
Within 40 km radius (134 unfound).
Within 50 km radius (258 unfound).

I have more than a bit to go to empty out the area around me.

Mind you, the tide is coming in faster than I can swim too.

GCA cache density function has gypsycacher as

Within 10 km radius (1 unfound).
Within 20 km radius (2 unfound).
Within 30 km radius (3 unfound).
Within 40 km radius (4 unfound).
Within 50 km radius (7 unfound)

GSAK has unfound as
1 cache within 10km (an event so I won't count that)
1 other cache within 50km GC17F79 (been within 1km SE of this but didn't get it  )
46 within 100km

Go to the "My" tab, and select "Cacher Page".

You will now get an extra menu of tabs on the page below the main set, which is stuff that is all about YOU and YOUR caching.

Go to the "Details" tab, and down the bottom you will see "Cache Density". Voila

Alternatively, go to

http://geocaching.com.au/cacher/MyCacherName/density

where you have replaced MyCacherName with Captain Terror (or Captain%20Terror, but the space seems to come through okay) ... or replace it with someone else's name so you can see how well THEY are doing.

I've managed to maintain a clear radius of 2.5km for many months. The circle isnt likely to get much bigger - someone has hidden a cache with posted coords 3km from my home in Canberra, but the actual cache is in Adelaide and Im not likely to get there any time soon... ](*,)

Am working on getting the 10km down to zero (or near enough) by sometime next year! No hope beyond that.

Within 10 km radius
There are 152 caches (73 unfound).
Within 20 km radius
There are 518 caches (408 unfound).
Within 30 km radius
There are 831 caches (721 unfound).
Within 40 km radius
There are 1,095 caches (984 unfound).
Within 50 km radius
There are 1,301 caches (1,188 unfound).

Nearest unfound (GC) cache is 3.8km away and we already have a DNF on it. It's a 2km walk through the bush to find it so it might sit there a while. Very annoying. Thought it had been muggled as there were 5 straight DNFs but then someone found it!
After that there's a couple of multis at 5km or so.
